Technically I think the Matrix sequels count. People act like they are abominations, but they are actually pretty solid movies on a standalone basis. It's the comparison that brings them down.

For me, this one is a polarizing movie. For the record, I consider Alien to be the greatest science fiction/horror/monster movie ever made. Aliens was a worthy sequel, in some ways more entertaining than the original. So then we get to the third one.CheeseSndwch said:

It's completely unwatchable.

This. It's really not good.

Found Batman and Robin's usernames.
Superman II was a movie that I long considered a superior sequel. It was a fun movie in the summer of '81 (slightly less fun than Raiders of the Lost Ark). But in the years after Batman Returns, the comic movies that came out were dogcrap. Batman and Robin is literally a film that should be burned, it is that bad. But I still thought fondly on Superman II. Then I watched it again, probably around the time Superman Returns came out. And nope, Superman II had clearly not withstood the test of time.YouBet said:
I'm as surprised as anyone I have that opinion on Superman 2. If you haven't seen it in a very long time, I challenge you to watch it. Loved it as a kid. Fired it up a couple of years ago and was shocked at how awful it is.
I didn't even finish it was so bad.
Which version, Lester's or Donner's, or does it even matter?YouBet said:

It was not Batman and Robin bad, but it was bad. It was not Spider-Man III bad, but it was bad. It is poorly written. Comparing it against the mega blockbusters we've seen where cities are laid to waste, and it looks quite real (Avengers, Man of Steel, etc), the so-called big battle between the Phantom Zone villains and Superman looks like a pillow fight. Maybe that's not a fair comparison given the technical abilities then vs now.
Doesn't matter. I'd probably say that Donners is a tad worse.gggmann said:Which version, Lester's or Donner's, or does it even matter?YouBet said:

I was pleasantly surprised by Doctor Sleep. I finally got around to watching it about 3 weeks ago. I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.Proposition Joe said:
Doctor Sleep was a really good adaptation of a really mediocre novel.
Exorcist 3 worked because it really wasn't an Exorcist movie until the 11th hour if I recall correctly. That, and George C. Scott could make a phonebook reading interesting. It also probably benefited from Exorcist 2 being such a god-awful mess.
Some of the longer-running series... Nightmare on Elm Street 3 gets lost in a lot of the schlock of the sequels. And 'New Nightmare' was more or less the birth of the meta-movie (which was then perfected in Scream).
Is Tremors 2 underrated, or have people finally come to realize it's greatness?
3 was stupid. 4 was as bad as Batman and Robin.Jasomania said:
I didn't watch any of the Superman movies until I was an adult and if you don't have the nostalgia for them it's shocking how bad all of them are. Even 1 and 2 are just as bad as 3 and 4. The only good Superman movie is Man of Steel.
You could put a laugh track on Batman and Robin and it would be a huge hit.Cinco Ranch Aggie said:3 was stupid. 4 was as bad as Batman and Robin.Jasomania said:

Probably surpasses the original, with the addition of Pesci.Mathguy64 said:

Actually, that line is from Batman Forever (the one with Riddler and Two-Face), and at the time most people liked it. Though in hindsight, it was always overly campy and should have prepared us for what Schumacher would do to us in Batman & Robin. Not Sure said:
The only good moment of Batman and Robin was the "Holy rusted metal, Batman!" line.
