Just to confirm:
Player 001 this season was the guy wearing the black mask that shot the cop in season 1 right? So he's infiltrated the game for some reason? I thought I recognized him and then he said 456's name right before the six-legged race and it caught 456 off guard.

Yeah, they also show him during the red light/ green light game, observing still as the boss.

I'm confused why Gi Hun trusted "player 001". After the first game, shouldn't he be suspicious of anyone wearing 001?

Even if not specifically 001, he should be thinking there's likely SOMEONE playing that is actually part of the game.

The only one I'm not sure how he would have eluded was the six legged race but in that one, they had them going last so, in theory, they could have killed the other losers right in front of him and not shot him. For the merry go round one, during one of the numbers he disappeared and Gi Hun was worried about whether he had hooked up with another group. When they get out, he shows up with a smile on his face, seemingly having hooked up with another group. But I guess he could have been spared by the shooters and then just looped back in when they opened the doors.

Tough on the merry go round as all the doors had a window to the room so anyone could have seen them not shoot him.
