Beck Bennet is a huge loss, IMO. He was one of my favorites, and a real "glue" guy. That said, I've been following James Austin Johnson on Instagram for a while now, and he's the first new cast member I've been legit excited for in years. Does the best Trump impression I've ever heard, hands down.

Beck is a BIG loss. Hopefully this means we get Bowen Yang in more skits, he KILLS it (I don't understand what they see in him. He's not very funny, and isn't really good in any sketches he is in either)

I was under the impression that Che and Jost were leaving. I thought with Che having his own HBO Max show and Jost releasing a book and having some project with his brother (plus the whole baby daddy to Scarlett Johansson), just felt like those were foregone conclusions.

This really did feel like it was going to be a start-from-scratch year, with nearly every known name moving on. Now? Everyone's back save for a guy I never thought would leave. Kind of a weird vibe overall.

There was an article after last season saying that Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, and Pete Davidson were most likely out. Beck Bennett leaving was a big surprise.

I have two thoughts on it. The first is, he has the kind of impression we should have been getting this whole time. An actual impression, not just someone doing some buzz words and pursing his lips together.
I have a feeling he probably has a knack for doing good characters in sketches, and hopefully they will use him well.
Too many sketches have people who just act the same in every one they are in currently.

For the most part, I think this season of SNL has been the best in years. I think moving away from constant Trump bashing has helped them a lot. Even the Trump they had last Saturday wasn't done in the same way as previous skits. It didn't seem as hateful. It seemed more like what we would typically see in an SNL political skit.

Yes, the trump skits were just not creative and I think they used it as a crutch the last few seasons.

You ever seen Shane Gillis's? It's spot on. He's a standup guy similar to Joe Rogan. He actually was selected to be a cast member on SNL a while ago, but was kicked off like the day after the announcement for some jokes/comments he had made on his podcast previously. Just released a special for free on YouTube where he does it, if interested.

Most of the time, that's the joke. Pete is just playing himself, and it can be pretty funny because he's an akward guy.

So good.

In a solid season so far, with some of the best first-year cast members in years, the Please Don't Destroy shorts have been a highlight for sure. I love these guys. I highly recommend seeking out their pre-SNL videos as well, which are just as funny if not more so. There's something about the pacing and cadence of these things that works so damn well, and feels so uniquely them.

Personally I haven't liked them as much as the Lonely Island shorts, but they are still pretty funny
