I like most of the artists mentioned in this thread, but if I'm picking one, I'd have to go with Merle. As a vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and live performer. So good at so many aspects of his career, at different ages. There are people whose songwriting does more for me on the whole, and there are better saxophonists and fiddlers. But nobody could do everything he did as well as he did.BurnetAggie99 said:
Merle Haggard is my favorite of all time. Dude was lights out and has way to many tunes I could post. 38 #1's great voice, guitar player, great song writer and like Waylon a true outlaw.

In October of 1951, Hank Williams was cutting sides for MGM at Castle Studios, And Big Bill Lister was there as well cutting songs for Capitol. Capitol wanted him to record another "Drinking" song as his song Beer Drinking blues had found success among the Jukeboxes in Honky Tonks. He had a session coming up but he didn't have a "Drinking" song to record. While Hank was taking a break from his sessions Bill told him what was going on. Hank told him "Don't worry hoss, I got one that'll cock your pistol" The next morning Hank brought an acetate record to him titled "There's A Tear In My Beer". Bill recorded it and the acetate was lost for years until it was uncovered and used for the much more famous Duet with his son. This is the "original" recording of the song by Big Bill Lister, hope y'all enjoy!
I'm surprised he was playing piano. I always imagined him singing this song with a guitar.BurnetAggie99 said:
I always love some Gary Stewart. Very tragic and sad about his death. Let's pound some beers, play some 42 and play the hell out of Gary Stewart.
