So, getting ready for the new Dune, I am watching the one from 1984 with the wife. I bought the movie on Google Play.

It's different. It has changed.

In the original movie, Chani tells Paul how to fight a freman. "look for a switch". The freman moves his knife from his right hand to his left. That happened. I fuchingk saw it.. They have changed a lot of things with that movie. Some of that is probably OK. But, Chani is nothing now. What, The F.

But, this is not the only thing they have changed.

In the movie Unforgivin, Clint was handed a whiskey bottle. He killed it. Just before he killed Gene Hackman. Him drinking down that bottle was key to the whole movie. And, it's not there in my Google Play version.

Anyways. If you are looking for the 1980's version of Dune, don't pay Google $15 for it. It's not there.

Physical media.

Just watched the ended on HBO max and its seems the same. The kid is drinking it after he killed the 2nd dude, Munny starts drinking it when he hears about Ned, he throws the now finished bottle in the rain before going to the showdown.

Thank God they've never tried to update Star Wars...

Definitely something to this...in the age of everyone relying on corporations to manage their media collection, why would selective content editing be an issue to those corporations? No one fact checks anything, much less an old movie...don't see how they would be held accountable at any rate.

Movie script idea: In 500 years, an old NAS server will be excavated from some American Mom's basement with a large Plex collection, that will bring our society back from the brink with the original versions of culture-defining media. Book it!

This was in the book so I tend to believe you unless you are recalling this from the book?

Haven't watched '84 Dune in a while so don't remember.

Not saying the op is wrong but there a 3 or versions of the lynch movie. It could be that he is comparing 2 versions.

But don't really care enough to look in to it

This is key to the whole movie. On my version on Google play, there is no bottle on the ground in the rain. It's a ****ing eunoch movie without that scene. So, so sad.

why would they take a scene of drinking whiskey out?

and this is for real some animal farm/1984 stuff

I don't understand the examples given. They make no sense. In don't see why SJW would complain about either of them. They seem more like examples of directors still tinkering with their movies (like Star Wars).

They didn't , I think OP says they took out a scene where the empty bottle is thrown to the ground .

That is how you read this? They cut out him throwing a bottle to the ground?

Sounds like we need clarification. Its possible things can be implied by scenes as well. It could still have the same impact of neutering the film, which is ridiculous.

They're not changing anything. Many movies have multiple versions. There's like 4 versions of Blade Runner. Depending on what version you have of The Abyss you have, you could be watching an entirely different movie.

Agreed, these streaming companies only care about making money they aren't going to have employees that are just tasked with making minor changes to movies.

There are multiple versions of Unforgiven? Other than editing network TV versions for language, I've never seen Unforgiven without the whiskey bottle scene.

One thing I've learned the last few years was how many versions of movies exist.
What was that movie that had a different ending in Britain and everyone claimed PC culture or something, and Netflix said they just used the wrong one? Even watching movies on TV there are added scenes, deleted scenes etc. and many of the changes aren't PC - I was watching National Treasure 2, and noticed a really simple scene of Kroger smiling taken out. That was for TV time I'm sure, but that version sits somewhere now and if Netflix bought the rights from TBS (where I saw it I think), then they might have that one too.
So I don't think it's likely to be anything sinister.

This is why I have my own NAS for my plex media library. I have something like 250 movies or so on it (all at least DVD quality). It's also why I wouldn't rely on things like Xbox gamepass and the like. If you don't own your own media, they can tamper with it.

Think he is saying there is a scene at the end where he is riding into to town in the rain to confront Little Bill.

CUrrent version he is holding a whiskey bottle, then the next scene you see an empty bottle being thrown to the ground as he rides up to the bar.

He is saying there is a scene that shows him drink the bottle first that was removed.
This scene being removed ruins the rest of the movie (the whole him being drunk during all the stuff he is infamous for)
