I thought I was way over Seinfeld, but since it's streaming on Netflix, I clicked on an episode just for a moment of nostalgia. Well, I'm halfway through the entire series now. Got me thinkin'..,,,

What are the best sitcoms of all time? Try to limit your picks to five, and we'll compile a list and settle this question. Cartoons are great, but NOT for this list. Someone can create a separate thread about that. Here are my picks:

Seinfeld
Cheers
The Office
Scrubs
Community
Frasier

Wow, it's hard to pick just five.

Parks & Rec for sure.

I'd also add Workaholics and Brooklyn Nine Nine. Wife and I watched Happy Endings on Netflix this year. Thought it was a hilarious show but had never really heard of it before now. Ran from 2011-2013 before getting cancelled.

A lot of classics will probably not be named here because the average age is too young. It would be nice to have some retirees chime in.

We'll miss some essential 70s show for the same reason- Three's Company, Happy Days, etc.

Barney Miller. The extras on the show were classic and what made the show entertaining.

At what point did kids stop watching classic TV reruns? Growing up in the 70s and 80s when there was little choice in cable, we watched tons of syndicated reruns from the 50s-70s. I'm guessing that started going away in the 90s. Also, some of the series were more nuanced and adult in nature in their humor so you really needed to be more mature to appreciate them (MTM, Bob Newhart).

In addition to what's already been said.

30 Rock
Happy Endings
That 70s Show
King of the Hill should be eligible because though it's a cartoon it's way more similar to the shows above than it is to The Simpsons or Family Guy.

Happy Endings was so damn good. Unfortunately it never stood a chance with ABC airing episodes out of order and moving it around to different nights and time slots.

In no particular order:

All In the Family
Cheers
M.A.S.H.
The Office
Seinfeld

There are many other great Sitcoms, but this is the top tier in my opinion.

(I Love Lucy should also be in there, but not sure which one gets kicked out.)

Very tough to pick 5

  • Seinfeld
  • Friends
  • Frasier
  • The Office
  • 30 Rock

So tough to leave out Good Place and Parks... but I think 30 Rock just makes me laugh harder. It is so many jokes shoved into every episode.

Obviously I think I have an NBC bias.

Though, one I wish I could include but just isn't into that top tier is Home Improvement. Such a great show and would absolutely make my top 10.

No order

- Parks and Rec
- Frasier
- The Office
- Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- Scrubs

Honorable mention: Community, Veep, Modern Family, Brooklyn 99, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Curb your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, The Good Place, Better off Ted, Eastbound and Down, Vice Principals, Righteous Gemstones, New Girl, Happy Endings, I love lucy, News Radio, 70s Show, Ted Lasso... I feel like I could go on and on...

This is incredibly tough. I think Seasons 1-3 of AD and Community are some of the best on TV, but their remaining seasons just drop them down slightly.

I watch that show every night. Love the intro music as well. If you have Direct TV, its on channel 323 at 11:00 and 11:30 every night of the week.

There's a pretty large gap between Seinfeld and everything else. It's probably the only sitcom that would be in my top 25 shows of all time.
Star Wars Memes Only

Anyone who says Friends is wrong. More of a soap opera than sitcom. Plus it's just terrible.

On the other hand HD tv also gave us the glory that is the HD subchannels. MeTV, Grit, Laff, Antenna and a whole bunch of others are available via the digital antennas and some are even on cable lineups. I watched the Drew Carey show at least one time through on one of these a couple years ago, watched quite a few Becker episodes, many Night Court airings, WKRP, etc. Obligatory check your local listings warning here, but there's some great past programming on those.
