I tend to give Wes Anderson the benefit of the doubt and will see any movie he puts out, as I will with 2 or 3 other directors. I'm looking forward to this one.

I admit that I have to be in a certain state of mind to enjoy it, if not in the right mindset his overly stylized and a bit goofy approach can wear thin. But I always appreciate the detail, commitment, and style that is uniquely his. And they always have moments that make me laugh, and I tend to smile for a lot of it.

Didn't see a thread on it, anyone got this in their movie queue?

This is kind of where I'm at with him. Watching the trailer kinda makes me roll my eyes.
That said, his stories, dialogue, and characters I love. I'm just kinda over his set design and cinematography tropes.

I'll see it and probably like it.

It feels like a bit of a guilty pleasure, like I know I like it but am afraid to admit it to others.

And maybe come home and cut down a tree with an axe afterwards or something manly like that.

I'd put it in the top tier of Wes Anderson movies. Thought it was great and very funny. Of course, it's beautifully shot and had plenty of Anderson's signature touches.

Didn't really have any clue what the plot was going in, and was surprised it's three separate stories. I ranked them 1,3,2 and thought Adrien Brody was especially hilarious.

If you like Wes Anderson movies, you will like this Wes Anderson movie.

Grand Budapest is my favorite, but I would it put this one pretty high up on the list. I will have to watch it 50 times to know for sure where to put it.

There were some beautiful shots alright.

8.5/10 without the Timothee Chalamet story.

7.5/10 with it.

I haven't seen it yet, but a review I listened to made me excited for it.

In the review, there is a suggestion perhaps that this film is possibly Wes Anderson poking fun at himself or wondering if maybe he's too Wes Anderson for even Wes Anderson. Some introspective criticism.

"To each their own" and all, but Fantastic Mr. Fox is WAY too low and Moonrise Kingdom is WAY WAY too high. ( IMO, of course )

Not sure why I left it off.. I like bottlerocket I'd probably rate it right below Zissou.

Finally got around to watching this this afternoon.

I enjoyed it and would probably put it in the upper half of WA movies.

I'm kind of surprised nobody has talked about the amount of explicit nudity in it yet. No complaints here ( at all ), but I was pretty surprised by it.

The dialogue was pretty fast-paced and sometimes hard to keep up with, especially when they were speaking in French. When it comes out on streaming, I will definitely watch again and pause/rewind.. ( and not just because of my earlier note! )

I don't think I laughed very much at all, but I found all of the stories interesting and thought the performances were great across the board.

Why the hate on the Timothee Chalamet story?

Because it starred Timothee Chalamet.

I didn't hate it or him, but I thought it was definitely the least interesting of the three

I enjoy most WA films, but I am 2/3 of the way through this and it is a brutal slog. Wow.

I will say that I am impressed with the acting of the guy who starred in Dune.

So, an homage (sort of) to the New Yorker of Harold Ross, Thurber, Baldwin, EB White, et. al.

The stories do not work for me at all, but I enjoyed the art design.

Did you watch it alone on a Thursday morning at home?

I feel watching at night with others in a theater does make me enjoy movies I might not if watching alone and distracted. Or even just theater screen vs home PC screen.

But it was different subject matter and themes for Anderson, although entirely recognizable as being one of his films.

If you're talking to me, I will admit that I watched it on a PC over two days, quite distracted with some other things.

But I watch a lot of movies on my 27" PC and don't get distracted.

I don't know if I'll try it again right now.

I think WA is going for the whimsicality of the classic New Yorker writers, but everything he does is whimsical, so......

I enjoyed all the acting. I love Bill Murray. Loved the colors, the animations, etc.

The stories did nothing for me. Didn't care about any of the people as people--except for Bill Murray.

Random complaint: Story 3 had the same kind of wild shooting scene that Grand Budapest did, but there it made sense; here, not really.

Tout ce francais etait de trop.

This movie is pretentious and painfully dull. I'll finish the third vignette due to sunk cost, I may as well finish.

I finally watched this last night. It's a lot more mood than plot, but I enjoyed it.
