One of my favorite old movies. Absolutely love it.

Would you consider it a propaganda movie? The timing of when it came out is the only reason the thought crossed my mind. Not sure if it fits that mould.

It is definitely a pro-Allies movie, yes: the reluctant American eventually acts on principle to join the struggle against Fascism.

  • Given that the heirs of those that put lenin, stalin, mao, etc., in power have now finally won and turned the us and whole western world into their commie stooge playground, its really sad and fascinating to watch all those ww2 and cold war movies with the benefit of hindsight.


If only we'd have had americans in power, what a freaking utopia the world could have been.

The bar breaking out singing La Marseille to drown out the German soldiers

The La Marseille scene is so moving.

They filmed it when the war was very much in doubt and many cast members were french expats.
