Definitely one of my all-time favorites, and I'm glad I was able to meet him on the First National Band Redux tour. RIP, Papa Nez, and thanx for the ride.

I don't know the history on this but I always thought the Monkees were put together specifically for the TV show to kinda of ride the Beatles coattails after their US Tours were such smashing successes

I hope you are being sarcastic.

And, darn, I almost got tickets to see him and Mickey Dolenz out here in SoCal last month in November and decided against it. Lesson learned. Never hesitate to go see aging musicians from your youth when you get a chance.

RIP Mr. Nesmtih. Mickey Dolenz is the lone surviving Monkee now.

Same! I *almost* pulled the trigger on seeing them in Austin and decided against it when I thought my schedule would be too hectic thst week.

Just two or three months later, I can't tell you even a single thing I had on my schedule that week....but I would have remembered the concert.

If all you know about Mike Nesmith is The Monkees, you should look a little deeper.

As alluded to above, his mom invented Liquid Paper.

He pretty much created the concept for MTV.

He was a pioneer in home video.

He helped get "Repo Man" made.

One of my favorite authors, P. J. O'Rourke, writes about them doing Baja racing in Mexico.

And I'm sure there's more.

Now the girls would turn the color of an avocado
When he'd drive down their street in his El Dorado
Why he was only 5'3"
Girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso was never called an *******

I have seen them in concert.

I think it was the same weekend as the Dead Kennedys

Fun fun fun in the fluffy chair
Flame up the herb
Woof down the beer

Hi, I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go
My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses of sugar-coated mindless garbage
So don't create, be sedate
Be a vegetable at home and thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll
MTV get off the air!
