Just finished the Sopranos again for the first time in a long time. What an absolutely fantastic show from start to almost finish.

Still think the final scene is a terrible ending. Chase got it wrong no matter how many different ways he tries to explain it.

But I'll tell you what it doesn't do, it doesn't completely and utterly ruin the entire series like the last season of GOT.

i binged it over the summer for probly the 3rd or 4th time. i never really noticed just how much of that show revolves around food. like they are constantly drinking and smoking in "mad men", just drinking in "justified" or every other show; they are just constantly eating in the sopranos. hell, even 10 year old AJ gets pissed when grandma isnt coming to his b-day, not because of affection or presents, but he wont get to eat her ****in ziti.

Agreed on the ending. If Chase kept everything on screen 100% the same, but merely said from the get go, "It suddenly goes black because Tony gets whacked and never saw it coming." then I would have a completely opposite opinion of it. His BS of "it doesn't matter if he live or died.. the entire universe is missing the point." ruined it for me.

Yeah. Well it does not ruin anything for me because I've ignored what he has said.

Tony 100% died and everything in the show leading up to that point indicates that and even predicts it.

I do understand one of his points which was fans sort of rooting for the graphic death of Tony onscreen was grotesque. I don't care if I saw his head blown off I did not need that.

But he could have done it another way. Everything in that final part was basically from Tony's viewpoint. All he had to do was give us a final view from tony's perspective right before it goes black of Carmela's horrified and panicked face. And then black. Like a split second of realization on her face as the gun is pressed to Tonys temple (presumably, but we do not see that). Then black. Might've been one of the best endings ever with just that. imho.

yep. we don't get Tony's POV. we get a shot of Tony and then black.

all that to say, i cannot get through the opening scene of GoT knowing they completely and utterly shat on the white walker story line.

Watched it for my first time ever this summer. Just simply an amazing show. It lived up to everything I had read and heard about it over the last 2 decades.

I will say I absolutely loved the ending scene though. Seemed pretty straightforward to me that Tony was whacked. It's what fits, and no reason to hope for a different outcome.

I just rewatched it for the 2nd time and I forgot how much of a beating Meadow was up until maybe the last season.

GD every scene she was in I found myself cringing.

Besides that yeah it's a great show that still hold up.

I think the way they did it was fine. I think Chase not acknowledging it immediately after was incredibly moronic and undermined what he'd done. It could have been a fairly historic and long remembered ending to a series, and instead it's mostly just viewed with confusion and frustration

Just a great show all around. There is something about the Italian culture in shows that I like so much. The importance of eating and drinking is simple but so much fun. I recall the scene where they're all locked up with in jail with each other but aren't in the same living situations as the other inmates. The emphasis on cooking "the gravy" cracked me up! Those guys weren't in jail, they were in heaven.

And the one-liners... My favorite was when Tony was talking to Uncle June's driver Mikey. "You go down on your muddah with that mouth?"

The Sopranos can double as a massive advertisement for all Italian food. During my watching I was always craving the foods mentioned in episodes.

There are some good recipes online based on the food they eat. Carmela's baked ziti is awesome. I make it several times a year.

Phil was whacked at a gas station with his family.

At that point in time it was all out war and everything was on the table.

Love the show but I think Chris getting shot up and beaten a few times were shark jumping moments for me after my last series binge.

The Carmela-Furio relationship was ridiculous. Furio was a drug addicted maniac when they first introduced his character, and they proceed to turn him into an interior decorating poon

To me it shows that Chase really had no real end in mind. That he was lazy as hell.

That our fan fiction is a better ending than what he actually came up with.

Yes, but Phil wasn't really "liked" by Soprano fans, not like Tony. Tony was like a loveable bad guy. Seeing him get murdered would have been pretty disturbing to most viewers I imagine.

100% agreed. Worst storyline of the series. Well...that and any storyline involving Tony's kids.
