How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't even know what to do with this. Everything is off the rails, but there's no way I'm not watching this.

What a time to be alive.

This would be way better if they changed this version of Carlton playing the "straight man" back to the original comedy Carlson character.

Plus make Alfonso Ribeiro, Uncle Phil.

And they're all bidding against each other so now somebody can walk in and pitch "Fresh Prince, but it's like The OC" and get a 2 season commitment. And we get to watch them light their money on fire.

This show got a 2 season commitment before a single frame of film was even shot.

Loved Fresh Prince. Loved The OC. This looks like a train wreck and I can't wait.

People sounded real interested on that thread, and the internet in general, when that person put out this concept. Will Smith latched onto it, I imagine that is where this version of the show sprung from.

I have a feeling that the idea of this version of the show will be better than the finished product, though.

Or be as funny as any average episode of Fresh Prince.

I guess its just easier to get funding for a remake than create something original.
We know its easier to write the remake

Just feel like that trend has gotten worse with movies and shows the last 10 or so years, but maybe its always been bad

When you approach it from a mindset of the other Fresh Prince doesn't exist, I actually think the trailer is pretty intriguing.

I'll probably check it out.

Cancel culture wouldn't allow that scene today.

Except I bet they'll reenact that iconic scene in Bel-Air at some point.

Anyway, trailer looks good, will watch a few. Cobra Kai was a sort of new take on KK, Riverdale was a decent take on the Archie series, so why the hell not Fresh Prince?

It objectively doesn't look bad at all, but it's so hard to not think of the prior show. It's like a show adaptation of a book, except it's a show adaptation of a show.

Idk... with all the garbage on TV and streaming services, I actually thought that looked interesting. I don't have Peacock, but I would give it a shot if it was on Netflix or something.

EDIT: Also, I've only seen 2-3 episodes of the Fresh Prince. Just was never a show I watched growing up, so i don't have the nostalgia for it to affect my thoughts on this.

First 'Saved by the Bell', now 'Fresh Prince'.

Is Peacock going to reboot or recreate the rest of the 90's sitcoms?

Bring back Urkel? (Ok, I'd actually watch that one)

As long as they change all of them from comedies to dramas and shorten the title of the original show to be more edgy. For example:

THE BELL
TIES
2 DADS
STROKES
AND GRACE

I'd totally watch a Mr. Belvedere prequel where young Mr. Belvedere is a MI-6 agent killing international terrorists abroad, and then his cover gets made and he ends up hiding at George and Webster's house for the rest of his days to avoid capture.

showing a deadbeat black dad. not sure if cancel/woke culture would have a huge issue with it (they might), but producers/writers would be damn sure too chicken **** to write/show it simply out of fear of casting a negative light on BIPOC

THe thing they wont be able to recreate is Will Smith is just an incredibly likeable and charismatic person. The show itself was ok, but sometimes a show is great because of the actor in it.

I finally got around to watching the trailer, and I agree. The show doesn't look bad except that it's The Fresh Prince. I think it's going to be hard to do something so different, but keep the same characters. They should have just made it a different family and acknowledged Fresh Prince as inspiration.

Cobra Kai works, but it's not that much different. It's still about using karate to teach life lessons and stand up to bullies. Daniel LaRusso is basically the same character. Johnny is a bit different, but we never got much story on him in the original, so it can be argued it's not a dramatic departure.

This show would be like if they made a new Karate Kid, with all the same characters, but Cobra Kai was an inner city street gang and Daniel met a Mafia boss who taught him how to deliver a message by blowing up Johnny's car or something.

For all the good streaming services have brought, the amount of watered down a garbage out there is pretty staggering. And with the competition, any old property suddenly has massive value.
I read today that there are now 559 scripted series. That's just insane. Now way even 20 percent of those can be good. And a after seeing that trailer it should be 558.
