Gen x hasn't done a damn thing except pat themselves on the back
My buddy saw him last night in New Braunfels and I told him going in my experience from Friday. He said at the end of the show yesterday that REK was "all choked up like in a last show ever type way" and agreed he didn't sound too good. Enjoyable time but just not quite right.Candiru said:
I saw him in Fort Worth in May. Energy and voice were good. It was a great show. Looking at his 2022 schedule, I have wondered if it is too much. It is packed with dates and quick turnarounds. I don't see how there won't be some burnout and weak voice nights.
Love that song but very interesting and surprised that didn't get mentioned by my buddy there.TresPuertas said:
went to the Whitewater show last night and while it was good, it was nowhere close to being as good as it should have been.
he's going out on his terms and the set list is what HE wants to play without him giving a ton of thought on what the audience wants. it's not necessarily a terrible thing, but it is what it is. (his first encore song was a friend of his who came out in a pink wig and sang "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie. not terrible but not what i went there for).
he sat the whole time and the band, while good, weren't exactly playing in the Live No 2 spirit.
TL;DR version: good, not great

I forgot to mention at the Waco show he told a story about playing with John Prine once and how he was 12 beers deep and suddenly was going on stage with him and nervous as hell and could barely remember the lyrics. Then he proceeded to play "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness". That was a great moment Friday.
I really hope the CS show in September isn't at Kyle Field and somewhere else. I could be wrong but I don't think the details have been announced yet.
