Love the lineup, but how is it going to work on network TV?

And I imagine 75% of the NFL Super Bowl demographic will give a hard pass on it.

Shakira sucks.

Prince is the gold standard until he's not.

My human eyes see the same as your Tleilaxu eyes. That is not in dispute.

However, her voice is as a Weirding Module to my ears.

Feels like this will likely be the future of Super Bowl halftime performances. A single act may not be able to make headlines/appeal to multiple demographics like they used to, so we could be getting more and more of these "Avenger" type team-ups.
Are those people not all appealing to the same demographic? Also this just doesn't seem to jive at all with the current NFL/Super Bowl viewership, which is maybe why they are doing it.

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) that like 75% of the NFL fans are white and about 75% are ages 35+. Also I seem to remember an article last year after the super bowl how viewship for the super bowl in younger people is continuing to drop.

Super Bowl viewership and NFL viewership are not the same thing.

Super Bowl viewership is global.

Super Bowl is the most watched TV event of the year. It's literally the most mass appeal product you can have. These types of halftime shows are there to spike a rating from even the most casual of fans, or non fans who will tune in just for the halftime show.

Irony of today's Super Bowl...

Will watch it more for the game than the commercials going forward.

This is the music that nearly everyone in high school and college during that time period knows from either listening to it or going to clubs/bars. Twenty years from now they will have a 60 to 70 year old Marshmello do the halftime show

Right but this is very much a not mass appeal halftime show. And super bowl viewership skews older. A 5 part rap show doesn't seem to align

That's why I don't get it.

That lineup is the soundtrack of our youth for most of us in our 40s, with Kendrick Lamar tossed in for the younger crowd. Seems pretty deliberate to me.

As a native of south Dallas, I'd love to see an appearance from The D.O.C. He's written most of Dre's lyrics going back to NWA days and does the hook in Dre & Eminem's new song.

Although not on the mic, it looks like we get that DOC appearance.

At least it appears it'll be a step up from the NCAA National Championship "halftime show" which was just them playing a music video with several "subtle" advertisements.

I already feel bad for the FTAB as they won't be able to perform during halftime of the natty game against whoever…

If your argument is that the halftime show does not reflect the NFL target demo, my argument is "thats exactly why they were picked".

Slim Shady: 49 years old
Dr. Dre: 56 years old (holy hell!)
Mary J. Blige: 51 years old (black don't crack)

Kendrick Lamar a baby at 34

Let's not pretend pro sports fans are the symphony crowd. When was the last time you walked through the tailgates or went to a sports bar during playoffs?

I swear I read that.
He had an aneurism a while ago, but was able to recover.

Ok. Thanks. Not totally crazy then.

Didn't the co-host of Yo MTV Raps go by Dr Dre as well? And I'm pretty sure he died a couple years back.

Andre "Doctor Dre" Brown is still alive too. He lost his vision a few years back due to diabetes

Good to hear he's still alive. Always liked him and Ed Lover. Can't hear Can I Clear My Throat without thinking of them.
