Sorry if I'm late to the party on this one, but I just watched the The Lobster and trying to decide if I loved it or hated it. Pretty sure I don't hate it, but fascinated may be a better word than love. Colin Farrell shows a deep element of acting with his ability to under act. Fairly shocking transformation. Such a ridiculous dystopian concept that you can't help but find interesting. Recommend the…experience(?)

The Lobster is a 2015 surreal black comedy dystopian film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Yorgos Lanthimos, co-produced by Ceci Dempsy, Ed Guiney, and Lee Magiday, and co-written by Efthimis Filippou.[6][7][8] In the film, single people are given 45 days to find romantic partners or otherwise be turned into animals.[9] It stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz as a man and woman who attempt to form a relationship. The film is a co-production by Ireland, the United Kingdom, Greece, France, and the Netherlands.

Yeah, it is a giant WTF movie from beginning to end.

And I absolutely loved it. ( I think )

Definitely would expect there was a large number of people that did to. One of those you love or hate, nothing in between. Especially since it's a long movie, you're only riding it out over halfway if you are truly enraptured.

I think I loved it. But not quite sure. Trying to explain it to friends later is very hard to do!

I watched this on an international flight. I'd say your post summed up how I felt. It was extra trippy watching it while in that weird state where you've been awake for way too long but you cant sleep and when you get off the flight you start thinking if you made up that movie in your head

Yorgos Lanthimos is one of the directors that feels pretty polarizing, you're in or you're out. I'm in. I loved The Lobster for it's weirdness and The Favourite is one of the best movies I've seen in the past several years. I've never seen The Killing of a Sacred Deer, just never got around to it.

If you liked The Lobster, even a little bit, definitely watch The Favourite.

I'm in. Will check it out.

I didn't hate it.
Just couldn't figure out what the point was when it was over and why it was worth investing two hours in.
All that uniqueness, and it kinda went nowhere.

I hated it.

It wasn't a smart movie, like it tries to be. It was just weird and pointless

My wife and I had some time to kill one day and decided to see The Lobster in theaters. We watched trailers for the movies out at the time and saw this trailer and said WTF. We knew it was gonna be weird going in which is pretty much why we went. A friend called as we were leaving and we told him to join us without preparing him. He made it about 20 minutes in and got up and left saying "why did you bring me here?"

Ok, have become a big fan of Yorgos movies per the prompt. The Favorites was good, and Killing Of A Sacred Deer was awesome. There has never been a black comedy done so well. Watching Dogtooth is next.

This thread is longer than the thread when it came out (https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/2757699/replies)

I saw it back at that time and honestly remember almost nothing about it. I remember my impression - at least it was interesting and unique - but if I can't remember details that I guess is a way of saying I didn't like it that much as a story.

Recommended, certainly weird but was overall funny….not often you see a truly unique movie.

Check out The Killing of a Sacred Deer. First time watching it will find like an eery suspense (and successful on eery suspense), and then the second time through you'll appreciate the black comedy/satire and have a good intentional laugh. Brilliant film.

I really enjoyed it. Maybe if Napoleon Dynamite, Garden State (there might be a better movie to insert here), and Black Mirror had a child; it might be this movie.

Really liked that one. Definitely not for everyone, but it gets aces for being original.

Thanks for the recommendation, creepy yet hilarious at times. Just the right amount of weirdness.

I won't give anything away but the two kids competing for their dads affection…haha. The Dad going to the school…haha.
