What class of ship would it be? Bigger than a freighter but smaller than a star destroyer? It has shuttles, so it could carry TIE-sized fighters, right? Maybe it is destroyer size?

Does Star Wars have shields around the ships? I'm not sure if I've seen anything definitive and it sure looks like they do at times.
I think TIEs had no shields, but the Xwings and Ywings did. Not sure about the A or B wings.

In the Essential Guide to Vehicle and Vessels I pulled of my bookshelf:
The pictures of the A-Wing and B-Wing shows they have shield generators, but it's not mentioned in their write ups. They both have hyperdrives.
A B-Wing is a heavy assault craft, so i always assumed it was pretty sturdy.
TIEs had no shields and no hyperdrive.

You have to admit it was pretty cool when the saucer section split off for the first time in TNG.
They literally reference their "deflector shields" all the time, in the movies. They also direct power to the rear or front deflector shields in certain scenes.Decay said:

If you ever play Roque Squadron, you actually have control of your deflector shields in certain ships.

I never knew if deflector shields might have been literal armor. They have a few things that have very visible bubble shields but I never recalled seeing them around ships.
Although I'm now remembering Ep1 where you see R2 save the princess on the chromed out ship and that whole scene makes it really obvious what they're doing.
So in summary, unless they did a star trek style bubble, I'll ignore all the context and assume nothing is there.
Episode 1 also has a literal bubble show up around the starfighter when he's inside the droid control ship. I think that might be the only instance of a visible shield.
Maybe in the last Jedi the shield shows up as the big, out-of-gas cruiser is deflecting curved laser shots.

Correct and correct. To be fair we're talking about episodes one and eight so nobody can blame me for not remembering them. Because they sucked.
