How was the end of BSG a Deus Ex Machina ending? They found Earth and settled it. It wasn't like God did it or a dream. The other option was to never find Earth which wouldn't be an ending at all or they all die and that would have sucked hard.

And the last dude (other than David Chase) who can criticize anybody on ending a story is GRR Martin.

You can't be accused of writing a bad ending…if you never write ANY ending!

I loved the BSG ending. Out of my 3 favorite shows of that era - it, lost,, and the shield, I had my favorite finale.

Yeah, a lot of writers don't know how to write an ending.

To be fair, didnt the show write its own ending when they decided to cut it short and move on to making ****ty movies? Once so ruined, what is the real point of writing a different book ending?

BSG is bad because it was the culmination of about 2 years of crap writing. Who the final 5 where still irks the hell out of me. And to end it with such a cliche technology is our downfall is just crap.

Man, talk about a user name that DOES NOT check out.

I loved reboot BSG. One of my favorite shows ever.

I'm not sure i understand martin's God critique here because i don't remember that.

Starbuck being an "angel" and guiding them to earth?
Was she? Damn, I don't recall that.

BSG ending ain't even in the same ballpark as Dexter or AGOT.

I'm about as big of a BSG homer as there is but admit that save a handful of episodes season 3 after New Caprica and 4 were mostly a slog. But those handful of episodes like the gut punch of Earth being a nuked hellscape and the fallout were also BSG at its best. Cult leader Baltar not so much.

The Starbuck comes back, Baltar and Head 6 were angels the whole time was a lame reveal, but they got to new Earth, beat the baddies, so the emotional payoff > deus ex machina cop out writing.

Religion/mythology was paramount to the show as the finale reveal shows that all of their ideas discussed on the show led to what we know on Earth. We had the old Greek/Roman gods, monotheism/Christianity, angels, and adaptations from other religions. The creator is a devout Mormon and the parallels of the Book of Mormon are present.

Even the use of "frakking" as a curse word slowly changing to what George Carlin eloquently described in his standup.

Ironically, I caught all this, but failed to realize Baltar and the blonde robot were angels guiding them until this thread.

This thread is a testament to my ability to completely forget all details of shows and movies. Even ones that I love.

I feel like y'all have spoiled a show for me and I've already seen it beginning to end.
