New episodes will stream on Hulu. Not 100% sure how I feel about this. The original run is one of my favorite shows of all time. The return took a bit to get back to form, but had a great ending. Guess we'll see how this run goes.

Also of note:

Quote:

Original series cast members Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman will all return. John DiMaggio, who voiced Bender and several minor characters, is not currently attached. According to an individual with knowledge of the project, the producers are hopeful DiMaggio will return. Should that not happen, Bender will be recast.

Are they trying to set a record for the most number of series finales made for one show?

I love Futurama but we don't need more episodes.

I don't agree with this. Loved the last one they made.

The most genius thing they did was to make the last episode reboot the entire series such that you can finish it and immediately throw one S1:E1.

That being said, The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings is one of the best episodes of television ever, let alone one of the best "series finales."

DiMaggio can make his own revival...with blackjack! And hookers!

If they want to make more Futurama, then hell yeah...

But that said, you HAVE to have Dimaggio as Bender. You can't recast him.

No West, no DiMaggio, no show.

From EW on the situation:

Quote:

Sources close to the situation tell EW that negotiations with DiMaggio have hit a standstill, which has prompted Hulu and 20th Television Animation to search for another voice actor with the first table read looming this coming Monday. Though, both sides of the situation DiMaggio's side and the studio side want the actor to return.

Hulu would be idiots to recast any of the main three if they're gonna bring it back. Jus pay the man. Take out of the money bag they use to make all those other garbage original shows.

Even without DiMaggio let them try it like Netflix did with Arrested Development. If it stinks (likely) we will just pretend it never existed.

Question:

I loved the original run. I did not like the movies and I didn't like the first two episodes of the reboot.

Did the show maintain the level of quality from the movies, or did it ever get better or worse?
JJxvi

What? Some of the greatest episodes in the whole run were after the movies. There are more of the best ones in the original run maybe, but only because there are just more of those in general.

Well that's why I'm asking. I was underwhelmed by the movies and the premiere so I wanted to know if that was the quality to expect beyond that. I'm sure there are great episodes here or there but is it more or less like the movies were?
JJxvi

What didn't you like about the "quality" of the movies?

The comedy central episodes feel mostly the same as the original run episodes, the main difference is that they are 16:9. The films only feel different to me because they weren't made as tv episodes like the rest of them. The only episodes that actually feel different to watch are the very early ones before the voice cast honed in on their roles (particularly bender and the professor)

I would say that some of the most forgettable episodes of Futurama are from the comedy central revival, but I don't think that's indicative of a drop in quality as much as it is just that I've seen the original run episodes so many more times.

No. There was definitely a drop off. They just didn't have that quick wit with immediate payoff that the original run did. Something was always kind of off in the new episodes. You don't see jokes like this one in them (which is the type of humor I found so unique with Futurama):

I am extremely nervous to hear them trying to bring it back. I feel like the final episode they produced was actually a very solid ending to the series. And if they bring it back without the Bender we know and love, then what is the point?

Futurama is my favorite show, but I would have never asked for more episodes. I have no faith they can pull this off in a satisfactory manner.

It's been many years but I feel like the episodes I saw were way less funny and for whatever reason had overly complex but unamusing plots. Something about the FOX satellite and such.

I was a huge Futurama fan from the original run and had people over to watch the first movie and it was a pretty silent experience.

Just curious on the general consensus of the later seasons, is all. S1-4, in my opinion, barely has any bad episodes. Maybe S5-7 starts rough but gets back to the same ol' quality? Not sure, thought I'd ask here.

I recommend you give them a shot.

I think you're the first "huge Futurama fan" I've ever heard of that watched two episodes and quit. Particularly such a big fan that you bought a Benders Big Score DVD and had a watch party for it. The description of the party though doesn't sound so shocking, that's about how I imagine it would go if I invited most of my friends over for Futurama in 2007. It'd be like "Why are we watching this?" I loved Bender's Big Score, but I watched it by myself with 6 pack I think, IIRC.

The second run was more hit or miss, but still had a lot of great episodes.

My friend texted me that he has signed on and was coming back.

Then followed it up with "No. I just thought you would enjoy that for a moment"

I figured as much. No way people didn't flip their **** when he said they hadn't come to an agreement yet.

And Futurama seasons of 3-4 seasons with several years between series seems to work alright so far… let's them write new episodes without running short on plots.

"It's a true honor to announce the triumphant return of 'Futurama' one more time before we get canceled abruptly again," added Groening.

Still the funniest thing so far from the recent announcement.

1st episode is up on Hulu. A little similar to the Single Female Lawyer episode from previous seasons, but still not bad.

I enjoyed yesterday's episode. A meta cancellation/revival episode was always going to happen.
