Just watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife...

They used an exact like was of Harold Ramis for the ghost of Egon Spangler.

My wife asked: "do actors setup trusts and royalties in case that happens? To move producers approach families about this to avoid lawsuits or bad publicity?"

To which I replied: "I don't know but someone on TexAgs will!"

I could see if the ghost character was invisible that this wouldn't be an issue. But they pointedly used a CGI version of Harold Ramis for the movie. How does that work?

Some of this was discussed after Rogue One had a CGI of a dead actor

It's going to keep coming as deepfake gets really good. Ethics of who gets paid, can they approve, etc

I believe most contracts will specify owner of the character as the producer - so you can have an animated Star Wars show with Han Solo that looks like Harrison Ford without having to pay Harrison Ford. This is questionable when you actually have live action though.
