This. End of thread. It's insane how many people are convinced that electric cars are "green". They are anything but.

My bro works for BHP. It's hilarious how progressive and "environmentally conscious" they pretend to be. They literally go into beautiful places like Chile and destroy mountain ranges.

Lithium does have serious issues, but you're being a bit outdated in your criticism. Technology is progressing pretty rapidly on brine solutions for Lithium and there's also big strides being made with Lithium alternatives like sodium.

And that Meme is just like 90% of meme's....simplistic and highly misleading.
Cobalt mines A-OK and environmentally friendly too? You drive a Tesla?

Destroying African rain forests so American progressives can feel good about themselves. I have no problem with Tesla drivers. Cool cars. Just grinds my gears when they act like they're in any way "being green". You don't get to promote destroying large chunks of beautiful mountains and rain forests and then lecture people on wanting a pipeline or two in North America.

While exaggerated for effect, the overall point is valid
There are lots of things we could all do, that would basically immediately reduce our carbon footprint.
Ie, no a/c, walk/bike everywhere, all our creature comforts
We're never going to do them, and any conversation that includes them is pointless. You can't present electric vehicles like some miraculous panacea. Even ignoring the realities of production, disposal of batteries..we don't even really have the infrastructure for everyone to switch

100% of individuals could make their emissions 0 and it would have almost no impact.
Just 100 companies are responsible for 70% of greenhouse gases.

I agree with you, but let's point the finger at the right place.

Did Spotify really just remove JRE?

Some kind of mistake, or bending the knee?
Looks like it was down for just a few minutes, apparently along with some other shows. Appears to be back up now, and Spotify is saying it was a "technical error".

That was easily one of the worst and unprepared guests I've ever listened to on his show. I was uncomfortable for him at times. This is coming from a conservative that found the Bernie interview interesting.

Changing topics, do people actually just listen to his podcast? I think that would not be good, but Ive only ever watched the youtube versions.

Depends. I don't generally listen to his chats with scientists, but I like his stuff with some of the former military (Jocko, Andy Stumpf, etc.) or outdoors guys that he has on, as well as some of his MMA or comedy guests. I'm less interested in his discussions with scientists or the like.

But then, I also take long walks with the dog every day, so it's good to have long-form stuff to listen to.

99% just listen on walks or while driving.
I may watch clips every now & then on YouTube.

I don't know what this means. I certainly remember reading very early on that there are tradeoffs with the battery issue. But again, the technology is progressing pretty quickly with batteries so I don't think it unreasonble to think Lithium is replaced in a decade.

It also seems like your argument is that if we can't make huge strides then it's pointless. Even incremental steps move things in a good direction and lots of incremental steps eventually equal large gains.

This raises another good question regarding climate prognostications. Are they accounting for reasonable technological advancements or are they basing their numbers on everything staying static based on today? We can't give the green movement (so to speak) the benefit of the doubt that it will conquer its current liabilities but, at the same time, assume everyone else won't change a thing.

No, I am in favor of doing anything you can, even if it is a 1% difference. Just not a fan of products, or positions, being misrepresented intentionally. The vehicles are a separate throught from the rest of the post. There is a reason all the top car makers are creating EVs, they know where its going.

That Randall Carlson / Graham Hancock episode that came out today is solid. Probably the best two guest he has on on a regular basis.

Talking Younger Dryas impact theory, lost technology and the age of human civilization.

Eh, Graham won't shut up sometimes. I do like Carlson a lot.
My favorite regular is probably Mike Baker.
Jocko, Tim Kennedy, and Steve Rinela are always good as well.

Wonder if Bryan Callen will ever come back on….

Listened to a financial podcast that said if AGW were real, banks would demand language in the underwriting for real estate considering 90% of Florida would be underwater.

If banks do not have language protecting their investment from being useless, how do you have any confidence in the issue? Shouldn't there be at least some language protecting banking if it had a snowballs chance in Hell of being real?

Has anyone checked out the recent one a month or so ago with Ryan Graves (a pilot who encountered the UAPs in a fighter jet multiple times)? That guy was fascinating to listen to. I didn't care for Joe's theories towards the end, but Ryan's re-telling of his experiences in the air was awesome.

Another recommendation is the one with Charlie Walker, which came out in June. He showed up in far-east Russia about a week before the Ukraine invasion occurred and, without spoiling, spent about a month in a Russian prison. Guy has lived an insane life (biked all over Europe, Africa, and Asia) and is an incredible storyteller.

Pilot sounded legit.

You listen to the Bob Lazar episode. Combine that with that navy pilot with the tic-tac encounter … and now this dude.

Don't know how you listen to those three interviews and not conclude that some technology exists that we don't know about.

The best episodes that I remember offhand were the Mike Tyson episodes,

If you grew up watching mike Tyson go back and listen to these. He's been on 3 times now.

I got the highest level of respect for Tyson. He's got some real wisdom.
