Link doesn't work
I've seen both, but it's been a long time. Last Man on Earth is the closest to the original work, but still takes a lot of liberties, and in particular, turns it into more of a zombie movie. Omega Man felt like the largest gap between book and movies with the weird cult thing going on.Rocagnante said:
Has anyone seen the older movies based on this book?
The Omega Man (1971), The Last Man on Earth (1964),
‘I AM LEGEND 2’, starring Michael B. Jordan and Will Smith, will be set decades after the original film.

The alternate ending for the original film will be canon in the sequel.

Really not sure how to feel about this one…..granted the alternate ending was better but….I don't know this seems wrong….
Will they re-release Titanic with a new ending where Jack does climb on the door and lives so they can make Titanic 2: The Lucitania
What was the last anthology with multiple short stories, characters, and settings that worked on TV or movie? Black Mirror? Love, Death & Robots?YouBet said:
WWZ is a perfect candidate for an anthology. It's multiple different short stories and is freaking awesome.
How it hasn't been properly made is beyond me.
While I enjoyed the movie, I have to ask , "why even call it I am Legend?"? Doesn't come close to the spirit of the original...heck, they couldn't have made the movie more exact opposite of the source content if they tried. Literally! Every.single.aspect. Outside of: was there a man in the book? A woman? A dog? A catastrophe involving monsters? Those are the only similarities I can think of.bluefire579 said:For me, it's not even about comparing quality to the book. You can put out a different interpretation while still keeping the spirit of the original. It's probably favorable in a lot of cases because some things that work in writing don't quite translate to the screen. But this adaptation doesn't even come close to the spirit of the original. Outside of there being vampires, there are very few similarities.aggierogue said:I thought the movie was great. But I've never read the book. Holding a movie to the book standard is a little unfair as most movies will never live up to the hype.Easy, Rod said:
Oh boy more terrible cgi monsters.
I am legend was a poor rendition of a great book. The scary part was the solitude. The second half of the movie, being the zombie battles and the discovery of the girl, was so terrible.
Talk about a completely unwanted sequel. Might as well just call this "I am Michael B Jordan and the movie studio wants to sell tickets."
It's also one of the few sci-fi/horror movies that I can watch with a young kid. A Quiet Place is another example.
And it's not meant to take away from you enjoying it. There are definitely solid parts of the movie. It's more lamenting that such a great story keeps getting abused by Hollywood.

They need to do I Am Legend like the book. Make the human the bad guy.
They also need to due World War Z as an HBO series. You could do each chapter or two as an episode as the guy goes back and interviews them.
For the WWZ, you could do a lot of the post outbreak would building by following the interviewer around. Minor stories could be told in passing comments or over lunch. Then have him traveling to various parts of the world as he goes for the interviews.jeffk said:Nagler said:

Great ideas! The brilliance of the I am Legend/Omega Man source material is the turn away from seeing the main character as the protagonist towards him being the boogieman. And most of the films never do that aspect justice.
And a WWZ miniseries would/could be incredible. I still think about the downed helicopter pilot chapter every time I drive through Mississippi/Louisiana. A plethora of great stories to showcase.

Completely off topic but since WWZ is being mentioned, has anyone read Day By Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne (same genre)?
