Hmmm…
I didn't understand the ending (the look at the camera part).

Kid has chosen black and I guess he finds white girls more attractive now that he's black? Interracial dating makes some people uncomfortable so he slyly looks at the camera?

Of course anyone who finds that uncomfortable won't be watching Atlanta so?

Maybe?

Glovers spoken before about how people called him "white" and people have been critical of him for having a white partner. So you can definitely see how the influence of pept thinking they get to decide who is black played into this episode.

I definitely need another watch to even start to unpack this one but imo that idea is at the heart of the episode.

I don't think it's about him choosing to be black but rather he comes across as more black when he fits into black stereotypes at the end (parole officer, not going to college).

Very "The Twilight Zone episode". I enjoyed it.

Special shout-out to the season 1 "Arizona Ice Tea" sketch, "the price is on the can"

It was playing up the stereotype that black guys like white girls. That look at the camera was a "you know what I'm talkin about" type wink at the audience.

Overall entertaining episode. I need the Twilight Zone spinoff.

Finally watching it, but that intro with the guy playing a game online and then the **** he says..that had to be pulled verbatim from Donald Glover playing a game online.
I've heard people do the exact same **** in lobbies, its lame as ****

That will probably be my last anthology episode. Probably…

At this point, I'm grateful Chase and Gilligan didn't make half of the Sopranos and BB seasons about random characters.

Same, they are good but they aren't what I tune in for.

What a wild episode. The ending was funny, but then "Splash Waterfalls" plays over the credits.

BTW: There's a scene after the credits.

How much of the episode was real (not a dream or something)?

Episode finally got around to Van but was ridiculous.

Some laughs but overall a bit of a mess.

Getting Alexander Skarsgard to play that role was awesome.

Not a very good season as a whole, but enjoyable individual episodes.
Its like he just decided to make a completely different show, but still call it Atlanta.

The scene on the bench at night toward the end with the real Van basically explained it. She told her friend on her first night in Amsterdam that she had jet lag and couldn't sleep, so she stayed up and watched the movie Amelie. She said she eventually ended up in Paris and then "tried to be Amelie" but couldn't even get that right, i.e. almost none of what we saw was real, other than Van running into her friend. Rather, what we saw was what she imagined her life would be as a version of Amelie, hence the similar haircut.

huh, I didn't catch this the first time through. I'll have to go back and rewatch.

Slowly catching up.

Loved the white fashion episode. Couldn't have been done better.

Enjoyed the "trinie to da bone" episode but like others have said, as much as I love these characters, I want to see episodes with them. If this had been released as a short form movie, I'd support it for an Oscar but I don't want it as an episode of Atlanta

The spaceman cookie episode was fantastic and what I want from this show

Overall, I really enjoyed these episodes, but that "finale" was disappointing. With that as the season closer, it makes even the episodes with Earn and Paper Boi seem like one offs. The season as a whole wasn't cohesive and felt unfulfilling, despite mostly having great individual episodes.

Damn, didn't realize that was the finale. What a ****ty episode to end on. By far my least favorite of the series. Only redeeming part was that the 2 cousins were kind of funny.

Amelie really is a great movie, much better than this relatively meh episode.

I'm shocked that I'm saying this, but I kind of missed Europe while watching episode 1. Maybe it's been too long since I've watched S1 & 2, but this episode seemed pretty directionless. S1 & 2 had them striving (obviously with side adventures and what not) and Europe showed life once they hit it big. This first episode didn't do much for me at all.

The D'Angelo plot was incredible, and I have definitely experienced that feeling of, "is the money this client is paying me through worth the stress they are causing me?"

Bummed there's not a new thread for the new season. I'm not caught up, but I thought the first two episodes were top notch and vintage Atlanta.

I can relate to Ern's father, my wife's family is nuts.

One of the kids basically kidnapped her dad and tried to change his will and open up a bank account under both of their names etc....wonder if they pulled it off.

Now there are restraining orders in place and all sorts of wackiness.
