To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.

As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, 'Live it up' and together we plan to do just that.

Damn.

Hopefully he will do some Moonlighting if he gets bored in retirement.

Part of me wishes they would make these "retirement" announcements binding.

Like if you announce your band is retiring, everyone that bought a ticket to you "farewell tour" gets free admission to EVERY show you do afterwards.

If you announce you are retiring from acting, it either needs to be enforced or you have to work for scale for the rest of your life.

And then i see this

Aphasia is an inability to comprehend or formulate language because of damage to specific brain regions.[2] The major causes are stroke or head trauma. Aphasia can also be the result of brain tumors, brain infections, or neurodegenerative diseases, but the latter are far less prevalent.
From Wiki. Did Bruce actually box at one point in his life? Just curious if that could be the cause of Aphasia or if it was disease related.

Bummer. The guy truly loves to work, given that he apparently says yes to every offered role. Never heard of him having financial issues as a reason like his counterpart Nicholas Cage.

I'm wondering if he recently had a stroke or something similar.

First sign of my dad's glioblastoma was aphasia and headaches.

Willis calling TGI Friday's for David Letterman at the end of this clip is one of my all-time favorite things.

Stephen Eads took my producing partner and I aside before we filmed Breach back in late 2019 and told us he was having these issues hence the need for Adam Potter feeding him his lines over a radio. It has slowly leaked out over the past few years that something was potentially wrong. I kept my mouth shut about it.

I'm hoping it's not that, or a brain tumor.

Most everything he has been doing the past few years been for financial security for his family and his long term care. I paid him $1.3 million per day. I flew him into a rural GA town of about 7k people on a private jet and he worked 3 days. While he was there he visited local businesses and took pictures with the locals. He had stopped drinking by then and was a nice guy.

Good to hear. Hope he is in good shape financially given this news. He still has some pretty young kids.

Always thought it was nice that he and Demi were still close after their separation.

It takes a certain kind of celebrity to handle a roast. (You'd never see Will Smith do this.)

Terrible to hear. Any sort of ailment that traps me in my own body is maybe my worst fear. Imagine trying to tell your kids "I love you" and it just coming out as gibberish. Or the other way around, having people talk to you and not being able to comprehend. Unthinkable.

The reason I'm thinking that is aphasia sounds not like a disease on its own but a symptom of a larger overall medical issue.

I'd heard that the reason he's such a D to reporters is because he was hard of hearing. Sounds like it was actually due to a medical condition. I can understand how that'd be really frustrating.
