My only Bruce Willis story is nothing special, but I was living in Malibu, summer 2003, and at the end of my internship that August, my family came out to help me pack to head back to Texas. The first thing we did on the Saturday they arrived was go to the local Coffee Bean. That afternoon, there was no one else there, but as we were ordering, Bruce Willis himself walked in and got in line behind us (one of the only celebrities I've seen who was actually taller than I expected). We all ordered, as did Bruce, and then, in this tiny coffee shop, we all just stood there and silently waited for our coffees together. As our coffees were ready, they finally called out each of my family members' names, then called out "Bruce," as if he were just some regular dude, he picked his up, and was gone. None of us said anything the entire time, but once Bruce finally left my dad just goes, "That was Bruce Willis!" He couldn't believe it. Dude seemed super normal and unassuming too.

(Five minutes later we were window shopping and Mark Wahlberg & his wife walked past us, going into Nobu, a popular restaurant there. And then half an hour after that, we saw Pamela Anderson walking with her trainer on the Pepperdine campus. My family was in shock, seeing that many celebs within an hour of arriving in LA. It was pretty funny.)

I remember when he broke through with, Moonlighting. He was so glib, happy and cool. The best smart-assed guy since Hawkeye Pierce. I wanted to be that quick with a joke or innuendo. I do think they both helped formulate my sense of humor as an adult. I was actually surprised when he broke into action movies and although he was awesome, I had always thought of him as more of a funny good guy character.

Regardless, I always really liked the guy.

Hah. And Travolta is right up there with his recent plethora of straight-to-streaming roles.

I worked for a HVAC company many years ago outside of NYC and Bruce turned out to be one of the customers (the property was listed under a corporate name). The technician who was sent there said Willis walked up as the guy was working and just started talking to him like they were both two normal dudes shooting the ***** Left a really good impression.

Man, this is sad...

Read that earlier this morning and it was really sad. It's impossible to know what was his choice vs his families choice vs producers using him. Probably some benefit to all parties, but man, tough read.

I read Kevin Smith's autobiography several years ago and he talked about working with Bruce Willis in Cop Out. He was a huge fan, both are NJ guys. Got to work with him briefly on Live Free or Die Hard since he had a small part in that one and got to share a scene with him. Had a good experience from what I remember and was happy to get to work with him on Cop Out. He had an entire chapter about that experience and how difficult Willis made it for him as a director, and how Tracy Morgan basically saved the production and was the opposite of Willis. I don't know why he thought he needed to apologize for what he said in the book. We was very open about why he was a fan, and very specific about how that job made him not want to direct movies anymore. Good for him if he has been able to move on, but I don't think he crossed any lines. Smith could still wish him well and be sad for the news, while also being a guy that had a really bad experience working with him.

I've always liked Willis in films but always think to myself...man, that guy looks a little too much like my dad to be in this movie.

My uncle worked as a driller on an offshore oil rig. They got a contract to work with a movie studio to get the rig ready to film a movie. That movie was Armegeddon. They kept a small skeleton crew on the rig while they were filming. My uncle got to meet all of the cast. He said Liv Tyler would bum cigarettes off of him daily. He said Michael Clarke Duncan was as big as he looked and was super friendly. My uncle told me he was on the drill floor with Bruce Willis and Will Patton kind of giving them a tour on how the rig worked. Bruce asked my uncle where the restroom was up there. My uncle pointed and said, "over that handrail over there ". He said he chuckled but that Bruce Willis wouldn't pee over the handrail to 100 ft down to the ocean. He said he really enjoyed talking with Bruce Willis and Will Patton, that they were normal easy going dudes.

BTW, my uncle said Ben Affleck was kind of an ass.

I was a big fan of Moonlighting during its heyday. I kinda lucked into watching Johnny Carson the night Bruce came on to promote Die Hard - and after watching the clip of the movie - I couldn't wait to see it. Soon after my buddy and I went to a 10:00pm showing of the movie and I was blown away! Still my favorite movie of all time - the mix of crazy action and hilarious one-liners - still hard to beat.

Naturally, I've been a huge fan of Willis ever since. He's been churning out movies like crazy in the last few years on the various streaming services, and while the movie quality has been pretty bad, we always watch because it's Bruce. After this news, I wonder if it might explain some of his performances that were called out for being robotic, etc.

I will miss him on the big screen - but will have a number of movies to re-watch and enjoy his greatness.

Instead of teaching actors to be oil rig workers, wouldn't it have been easier to teach oil rig workers to be actors?

Yeah, but is it easier to teach actors to be oil rig workers to be astronauts, oil rig workers to be actors to be astronauts, or astronauts to be actors to be oil rig workers?

I have mixed feelings about that article. Seemed like they were trying to find bad things to say with people who were willing to say bad things.
