Never heard it before, no interest in hearing it or this band again.

This
Allegedly this song was stolen from a submittal to a songwriting contest and given to Eric Carmen.
Allegedly.
The submitter never sued for damages because she was murdered by (allegedly) one of her high school students (she was a teacher).
Not sure how valid any of that is.

It was originally recorded by Franke & The Knockouts in 1984, written by Franke Previte and John DeNicola. Later they had Eric Carmen sing it for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack in 1987. Where is the other story coming from?

Gal I dated was from Angleton. Said one her teachers used to tell her classes that she submitted that song for a contest and the contest people liked it and kept it and turned it into a hit. Never heard the part about Frankie & the Knockouts.
Teacher was later murdered. One of her students allegedly killed her but there was not enough evidence to charge him with anything.

4. The intro was familiar, but I just could not come up with it. As soon as the keyboards hit, I knew it instantly.
