I have painted for about 60 years as a matter of personal fulfilment. Over these years I have studied art history, gone to the world's great museums and studied with professional artists. I have sold a lot of paintings through benefits, competitions, shows and personal contact but never considered the notion of commercialization as art to me is a matter of personal enjoyment and expression. Has anyone else pursued painting or other form of artistic expression where other's appreciation of your work is only incidental to the motivation you have for personal expression or the act of creating something whether it be a painting, woodwork, ceramics etc..?
