Cheatham St is not a dancehall. Its a bar with a dance floor in it......

Since you're headed to Fredericksburg you must stop in Albert and check out the hall there.

Some of the best halls in the state that are actually open and hold dances/music IMO are Gruene, Schroeder, Albert, and Coupland (although I'd consider this more of a venue and not a hall).

As a previous poster mentioned Kenney Store is a good up and comer as well, but again it is more "venue" similar to Coupland. Sadly, many of the best halls in the state no longer hosts public dances consistently. i.e. Swiss Alp, La Bahia, Watterson, etc.

Does Fischer Hall host regular events? I've only been there for private events (friends' wedding reception and his dad's "cancer didn't kill me" party).

Very cool historical Hall outside San Marcos/Wemberly.

Here's a good start:

Used to hit East Bernard, now called Riverside Hall, back in the 90s. The Armadillo Ballroom in Brazoria is permanently closed now. It does seem like a lot of these are disappearing with time.

RIP Texas Hall of Fame. Had my wedding reception there.

I checked in with them and they gave me this information:

Anhalt Hall is part of a dance hall rotation that includes Twin Sisters and Kendalia.

Twin sisters are open on the first Saturday of the month
Kendalia hall is open on the second Saturday of the month
Anhalt is open on the third Saturday of the month

Circa 1980 there was the Down-Hole Club on 290 outside of Giddings. Caldwell had the GoldStar Lounge. Right at the intersection of 21 and 696 was The Yellow Rose.
Those weren't very good. When we were in high school, on a Saturday night you were either at the SPJST hall in Dime Box or the KC hall in Rockdale. The SPJST in Caldwell would have a good dance every now and then, but Dime Box and Rockdale ruled the roost.

We were following People's Choice, the Debonaires, Texas Unlimited Band, and Leather and Lace.

Lots of fun.

Yep; I wouldn't even know where to go 2-steppin' in Houston any longer....
