Haven't seen another thread for this, so thought I'd start one.

Watched the mini-series last night, and thought they did a good job. As someone who remembers when the FLDS moved to the YFZ Ranch and the removal of the kids, it was interesting seeing the backstory on the history of the cult.

As for the story itself, holy.****ing.**** these people are brainwashed.

I get that some people are born into it and literally have never learned any better, but you'd think at some point simple maternal instinct would kick in, and override the command to give your 12 year old daughter to a 40+ year old man.

What may be most telling is that there are still FLDS members out there today who still believe in and follow Jeffs.

I'm from San Angelo and that all happened in Eldorado right before I left. I often said to anybody that hasn't heard of San Angelo that it's where all the FLDS news came from and it's the only time we've ever made the news.

It was pretty wild at the time.

I worked with the pilot that cusses a whole bunch. My wife was watching and I said if you see a JD Doyle let me know. He's a character. About 10 minutes later she sent me a picture of him on the documentary. Funny great guy when I knew him.

Watched a bit more tonight. The scene where they talk about Warren Jeff's trial showed him going into the town hall where my mom worked. Really surreal to see him walk down steps my mom walked thousands of times.

Weird to see San Angelo featured this much in the last episode.

Yikes. What a story. I remember this all happening, but the series definitely gives a lot more info. A lot of it is disturbing, but the last episode really mentioned some of the sickest stuff.

I agree with OP that it's crazy how many of the adults went along with it. Many of the young girls knew things weren't right even though they too grew up in that culture. The adults have no excuses.

My folks are from Eldorado. My grandmother was about as southern baptist as they came and I remember her being none too pleased when the FLDS came to town. She always had some wild story about them when we would talk. Turned out she was right…
