Streaming Shows: Weekly Release vs Entire Season

I'm curious to hear from anyone who understands the industry about why some companies release shows weekly versus an entire season/limited series at once.

After thinking about it, I would assume the best part of a weekly release is to keep the chatter about the show going for longer than a couple of weeks. With our culture's seemingly short attention span, this seems to be one of the biggest benefits. Not to mention, I'm sure episodes are rewatched more often because people are waiting for the next episode.

So why does a company like Netflix release the entire season at once? Is it just because that's how they have always done it, so they just keep doing it this way? I would assume that if one method made the most business sense, then every streaming service would do it the same.

All of these services are obviously watching subscriber numbers and hours watched, so I would assume they all have the same type of data.

Thoughts?

And weekly releases suck, BTW! Full season releases are the only way to watch tv in the 21st century!

"Oh, but the texag threads are so much better with weekly releases!"

Pffft, what a horrible reason!

Why don't you just binge seasons once they're finished airing? Problem solved.

Or they release the full season and you weekly guys simply agree to watch one episode per week and discuss weekly on here? That would allow us full-season peeps to enjoy the season right away and you weekly guys to enjoy your slow burn watch. That way both sides get what they want!

Except weekly discussion is pretty much impossible that way. Inevitably someone finishes within hours of it dropping, and most people avoid the thread to not get spoiled.

Weekly drops is the best of both worlds. You just gotta be patient and wait till the end if you really want to binge.

I must have completely missed the thread, because I don't remember seeing it.
