Just finished episode 9 and am not sure if this was discussed and I am probably way off base. When they are giving the final instructions before service and Sydney shows up late and out of breath, is it assumed that she and Marcus just got it on? He arrives right after she does.

No one answered this. I had the same exact thought. There was definitely a significance to it, and only thing I can think of.

Edit- just re-watched that scene and she comes in out of breathe tying her old apron while he comes in about a minute later. So yes.

Binged this weekend with the SO and man what a great season.

I wasn't sure how they could top the surprise in S1 with Bernthal showing up, which was amazing, but they knocked the one-off episode castings out of the park. During "Fishes" we paused it when John Mulaney came in and said it felt like he was pulling all the energy in the show towards him. But then when he gave that incredibly awkward, eyes open, and heartfelt "grace," we both mentioned after the episode that now we can't picture anyone else delivering that scene. Plus, a Bob Odenkirk appearance always rules.

If I had to rank my three episodes from the season…

1 Forks - Richie's 180 and character growth is so nice to see. And I don't want to live in a world where Ebon Moss-Bachrach doesn't get nominated for this episode

2a Fishes - nothing else needs to be said

2b Honeydew - Love Marcus' story and Copenhagen just looks great on the screen. The way they shot and timed the scene between him and Poulter's character shaping the loaves was really cool.

Wait...what did Noah Baumbach do for Forks? I don't see him credited anywhere.

Best show of the year. It's like what Ted Lasso promised in S1, but failed to deliver in later seasons. It's heart warming and gut wrenching but characters are undoubtedly 'growing' in a way that inspires. Richie's character arc is so freaking awesome; when he delivered the chocolate covered banana to Uncle J, it broke me (in a great way).

I hate that S2 ended on a bit of a downer, but that's 100% because the showrunners knew they had a S3 in the bag.

10/10 - no notes. A show for everyone.

I am an idiot lol

I somehow confused Noah Baumbach's name with Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Post edited

lol no worries, i was like "wtf The Bear got Baumbach too?!" Based on the insane pull they get with academy award winning actors, it would not have shocked me to see Baumbach on the credit list.

And I know im extremely late to the bandwagon but I think Ep. 7 "Review" might have been the most jaw dropping episode of television I've ever seen. I was probably 10 minutes into the episode before I realized the director was filming all of it in a single shot. The chaos of that scene combined with the technical skills to pull that off was insane. Carmy losing his **** at everyone around the kitchen while the camera roamed between stations was god-tier *****

**** this show is too good.

really wish there was some sort of "the bear" cinematic universe like graphic novel backstories about every single characters and spin offs and what not to tide us over until season 3.

I would watch a live stream of Claire getting her eyebrows plucked or waxed for what would apparently be the first time in her life

I don't know that his comment is totally accurate. I keep hearing about friends and family discovering The Bear and enjoying it. While a weekly episode release might have helped it build momentum, to state that the show got a week's worth of attention is a bit much. Succession ended earlier this year and I've heard just as many people talk about The Bear if not more so. To me the show still feels very much in the conversation of shows that people are watching right now because the word of mouth is so strong.

We finished up about a week ago and loved the whole season. We didn't catch season 1 until June so it wasn't a long wait for season 2, which was nice. For me, the best parts were the development of both Tina and Richie. Seeing them both grow from angry bitter, crew members that had no interest in changing or supporting a better restaurant to two individuals that learned what pride and dedication could do for a persons sense of accomplishment and self-worth.
Fishes was too familiar for me to enjoy as much as others; from two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law to a stepmother-in-law, there were too many family events that were ruined by anger, jealousy and bitterness, somewhat fueled by alcohol. Thankfully, all of them are out of our lives now, but the after-effect of those days still linger over us.

Wow. Just finished season 2 last night. What a treat this show is.

Best character-driven drama Ive seen since The Wire. At first you kind of hate everyone, but through the episodes you see that they are just flawed people trying to do their best and end up rooting for them. And then they come together and ball out. Masterful.

Im very upset that the writers strike is going on because that means we might not see season 3 until 2025.

Good news is the the next episode is forks and is probably my favorite of the series so far. Unbelievable storytelling and the break through we had all been waiting for with Richie.

Fishes is going to win everything at next years Emmy's though.

This may have been mentioned, but I just watched the 11 Madison Park episode of 7 days out on Netflix.

Writers for Season 2 definitely cribbed a lot of ideas for that remodel from this show....down to the elusive gas tests.

Worth a watch for you restaurant fans.

Nice spot, I watched that a couple years ago when it came out. It did feel a lot like that.

Just finished S2 and pretty much agree with everyone else. That was elite television and character writing. The acting across the board was obviously top notch, but here are my favorite performances from cameo/one-time/recurring characters:

1) The guy who plays Garrett in the "Forks" episode. That episode doesn't work without him. Very earnest and very direct and empathic. Subtle and essential performance at the same time.

2) Robert Townsend as Sydney's dad. The anti-Donna/Jamie Lee Curtis. Basically the best dad of all-time.

3) I know she's part of the main cast, but whatever. The woman who plays Tina. Nobody does more with their facial expressions on the show than she does.

4) The gawd Olivia Colman. Reminded me of Joe Pesci in a Bronx Tale. There for two seconds and you feel like they've lived that character their whole life. Was watching her and the whole time I'm like 'Damn...that's a professional ass actor right there.'

5) John Mulaney. Thought him saying grace was really good.

Just binged both seasons this weekend and was blown away. I don't think I've ever seen a show that made me feel like I was sitting in a pressure cooker like that.

I'm not sure it fully answers your question, but my assumption is that he's Uncle Lee Layne, the L from KBL.
