About your favorite series? And what is the best way to handle friends/acquaintances who are very evangelical about what they watch.

My wife had a friend over the other day who was INSISTING that we watch Obi Wan because she knows I generally like Star Wars. I just kind of smiled and said that we'd check it out instead of telling her we watched the first episode and looks like Disney had their B-team produce it. Had friends a few years back who would not stop insisting that we give Big Bang Theory a chance.

I think the only series I am evangelical about are Breaking Bad and Daredevil.

I can also turn on a series at the drop of a hat when it goes to crap like GoT. Went from one of my favorites to me not giving a crap about the entire IP in one season.

I have weird taste and REALLY enjoy well-done period piece series (Boardwalk Empire, Peaky Blinders, BoB etc) and I don't get all evangelical unless I really sense a person is into history. I'd never tried to persuade EVERYONE that they HAVE to watch them...but I lose count of the number of people I've been around who are like LDS about their shows.

Many people are not very self aware about how their tastes differ from others. There are only a few people whose recommendation I take seriously.

Even if I love something, I can generally tell if it's up someone's alley, if I know them. If I really think something is great and a person I know would really like it, I hound them about it until they watch it.

Why anyone would be that crazy about Obi Wan or Big Bang Theory just tells me they have bad taste, and I would probably just tell them I don't trust their recommendation because of their past fails. Granted, I can be very blunt with everyone.

This is one of maybe 3 supposed Tier 1 shows I still haven't gotten around to and has been on my to do list forever now. The Shield is in my top 3 all time and I've heard just how great Goggins is in it.

I can accept it a little better if it's a movie. They're essentially pressuring me into potentially wasting 2.5 hrs. I find it insane that some of our friends demand that we bond over dozens and dozens of hours of bad tv.

In case you missed my point -- I don't mean ON HERE. If you're on an entertainment message board you're probably in the right place to overhype your shows. My post was about people who do it socially to friends, family, coworkers etc.

No it didn't. Top 10 album all time.

Bruce Almighty-I'm dying laughing. Saw TOOL in Vegas in January with an over the top TOOL fan/good buddy. Show was incredible but I've been having it explained to me by him for six months straight now.

while thats my favorite show, its got to be the one i least recommend to others. I dont think alot of city folk can appreciate that appalachian lifestyle. Plus, i dont want others to find out ive been trying to emulate raylans walk and talk for years now.

I rarely like TV shows and movies that other people rave about. And vice versa.

So I don't recommend anything to anybody.

Justified is the only show I actively proselytize. It gets so overlooked, but like others on this thread have said, it's got some of the best written characters in modern TV drama.


Also I'll very lightly pitch The Good Place from time to time but nowhere near what I do for Justified.
