Hidden figures is something i watch a lot and it never gets old.

The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings. From the 1970's and very not PC. That being said, it's a comedic view of what being a Negro Leaguer was like in the 1930's/40's. Funny movie for its time and a great headlining cast.

On a more serious note, One in a Million: The Ron Leflore Story is a 1970's made for TV movie based on a true story starring LaVar Burton in the title role of a young man who falls into a drug addiction, goes to prison, and eventually turns his life around and plays in the Major Leagues.

Also worth considering is the original Brian's Song. Perhaps not a "black" movie per se, the movie centers on the friendship between two pro football players for the Chicago Bears, Brian Piccolo who is white, and Gale Sayers who is black. Another 1970's made for TV movie that was critically acclaimed. Stars James Caan and Billy Dee Williams.

Definitely a classic! Lillies of the Field is another book/play turned movie starring Portier.

One that just came to mind is Lean on Me, a late 80's flick starring Morgan Freeman as a principal tasked with turning around a failing high school…"They used to call me Crazy Joe, well now they can call me Batman!".
