Agreed. Absolutely fantastic, although the fatsuit he wore in Tropic Thunder would've been more appropriate to re-create Barry Seal's 300-pound physique.DallasTeleAg said:

One of the more bizarre double life things going.
Few people have given their all like that guy has when it comes to his acting. I will watch ANYTHING that guy does because at a minimum it will be entertaining. It might exist but I can't think of a single movie he's done offhand that I didn't enjoy. He should go down as one of, if not the most, consistently bankable and watchable actors of all time. I'm actually sitting here pissed off that we have yet to see the new Top Gun and that I missed it in IMAX. I will forever harbor anger at my wife over this.
And then there is his Scientology stuff. I don't even know what to make of that. I think Mimi Rogers got him into that mess? I don't recall and I can't fathom what keeps him there. Maybe he's actually working against them on the inside and is running his own real life Mission Impossible to bring them down.
And then he makes a movie about how he did it. How f'ing awesome would that be?

With changes in movie and entertainment industry, do we ever see a movie star as big as Tom Cruise again?

It's crazy, and sad, the hold that cult must have on him, for him to not even be able to see his child. He's probably the one person who could bring Scientology down completely if he were to see the light.
according to insiders who have fled the group, a big part of the religion is admitting secrets which are all recorded.
I tend to agree. I just don't know what could be out there that would matter at this point. Not much worse than being estranged from your kids.TCTTS said:LMCane said:OR the Scientology mafia brings Cruise down by releasing what they know about himdouble aught said:

This is likely a part of it, but I just can't imagine what they have on Cruise that would hold him hostage, so to speak, for *this* long. People used to think he was gay, but now, if he came out or was outed, no one would give a sh*t. So it can't be that. Short of murdering someone or helping Miscavige disappear his wife, I'm at a loss as to what dirt they could have on Cruise that would otherwise end him. And even if they released what they have, Cruise could easily be the guy to bring down Scientology and then be a hero again.
I just don't get it. Which leads to me believe he really is *that* brainwashed and genuinely into it; that, somehow, it's even more important to him than his own flesh and blood, which is so obviously insane.

Knight and Day is actually a lot of fun too.

I've groomed myself to look past it. If I had to not watch every movie where I disagreed with the actor's political or spiritual beliefs I would not be able to watch many movies. I, admittedly, am part of the problem.
You have to see 1 because it is classic and intro the some of the characters. I personally didn't like 2 at all (the Woo slo-mo got old quick). Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays one of the best villains ever in 3, plus it has Maggie Q.BenFiasco14 said:MAROON said:
I've honestly never seen any of the MI movies. So those are worthy of a watch? Trying to avoid spontaneously combusting in Texas right now- so avoiding going outside.
Absolutely. The first 3 are a bit dated (still fun, but expect some hokey ness)- but 4-6 are some of best action movies in the last few decades.
but i respect the flex in MI:5 to call out said blatant McGuffinbthotugigem05 said:
3 remains my favorite Mission Impossible, even with the blatant McGuffin.
Harrison Ford might be the one to look to, given he just (a) turned 80 and (b) completed a fifth Indiana Jones movie. Tom Cruise will likely continue to make action movies for a long time.Milwaukees Best Light said:
I just wonder how much longer they can keep trotting him out in action films? Dude is getting up there in age. And, do they have nobody else?
probably was the 1st one…..the 2nd and 3rd one had pretty easy plots to follow…..YouBet said:
I can't recall which one (maybe 3) but one of them was almost beyond my intelligence to comprehend the plot and keep up with it. I was LOST.

i haven't seen MI: 2 in a while, but i just remember thinking they went to the face mask well early and often in that onejokershady said:probably was the 1st one…..the 2nd and 3rd one had pretty easy plots to follow…..YouBet said:

2 being the easiest probably cause the first one was so confusing at times…they literally spell out the remaining entire plot (MI: 2) right before a big action sequence in the middle of the movie as if to say:

Loved that too and genuinely felt he meant it. He didn't need the money from this and it's a sequel really no one was asking for. Perfect definition of a passion project for fans and it made the movie that much betterWilly Wonka said:
I think his little "welcome to Top Gun Maverick" bit before the movie starts was a stroke of genius. It makes him look human and a fan like the rest of us. That went a long way to warming my heart toward him.
i actually liked it too and that really surprised me. i really thought that they should have released Maverick to streaming over a year ago. i was pretty annoyed that Cruise was (seemingly) just being selfish and trying to maximize his compensation by waiting to release in theaters. and maybe he was, but he was also 100% right...this movie was made to be shown in theaters.Willy Wonka said:
