Anyone else watch this? It's basically an adult themed remodel show. Wife and I watched it and really liked it. The people were absolutely fascinating and ranged from, "We just want a nice space away from the kids," to, "We want a place for watersports and bondage orgies for our polyamorous family." There are some where if you saw them in the street you'd just assume they had a sex room at home, but others were just totally normal.

I will say I've never given much credence to having a designer for a remodel or build (you're just picking colors or deciding where to put things), but the lady doing the designs for this was absolutely amazing. She knocked it out of the park for all these people even though they were very different. She was also hilarious. One of my favorite parts is when a couple showed her their bedroom that they wanted to redo and her reaction was, "What the **** is this?" when she saw the bed just on the floor.

I highly recommend even if you're not into home improvement.

the fact that netflix says they aren't going to be doing projects like The Irishman but will continue to put out content like this makes me mad enough to not watch this show out of spite.

It makes sense for them though.

The Netflix business model is having lots of content for everyone, so they need many hours of varied content for people to consume each month. They need movies and shows that will keep and lure subscribers of all varieties, and they need to add content at a volume/pace that people won't burn through it faster than they can produce it.

Netflix users consume 6 billion hours of video per month while generating roughly $1.75 billion in revenue. That's roughly 30 cents an hour. The Irishman was viewed 64 million times for a total of about 224 million hours. However, it cost $160 million, and its cost per hour viewed was 72 cents per hour, well above what people are paying in terms of consumption.

A show that costs $2 million to produce and delivers 8 40 minute episodes only needs to be viewed by 1.3 million people in its entirety to come in below 30 cents per hour. That kind of content also generates over 420 hours of content that can be spread across dozens of genres. It is far cheaper and far less risky than making megabudget films, regardless of the quality difference.

If they want to make films like The Irishman, they have to have A LOT of very cheap content that is heavily consumed to average out their costs. If they're bleeding subscribers and revenues, they simply can't afford it.
