Just finished it. Ron Howard is incredible at his craft. To take a story where everyone knows the outcome and still make a compelling film takes genius.

Same as with "Apollo 13"…

I can't even imagine how he managed to shoot some of those scenes.

Rescue of the Thai soccer team trapped in the flooded tunnels back in 2016.

The Rescue was also a really good documentary on the event. Jimmy Chin did that one (Free Solo).

Heard this was really really good. I have a hard time watching anything dealing with really tight spaces and people getting stuck so I'm passing on this

That was fantastic.

If I had one nitpick, it's that the first thirty minutes or so felt a little hectic and fast-paced, not giving a lot of time to introducing the characters. But, that may be due to the fact that I'm comparing it to The Rescue, admittedly an unfair comparison between a doc and a movie. (And one of the best docs I've ever seen.)

If you don't well up at the ending, there is something wrong with you.

Lost interest in this one when the opening scene had worse soccer acting than the Green Machine

i hope they make it

Watched this last night. I thought it was really well made. I make no claim of being an expert on Thai culture, but I'm married to a Thai and we spend a fair amount of time there (just return from there 2 weeks ago). From my farang outsider's viewpoint this felt pretty legit.

This got me looking into cost of a rescue like this. This apparently was a $500K rescue with thousands of volunteer man hours. Pretty incredible response, global response at that, and at the same time makes you think about the amount of starving people who could be saved with $500K of support

You wonder how much of that was because of the political situation in Thailand that was covered in the movie, or just the fact it was a story about a bunch of innocent children being trapped that elicited the response

Incredible nonetheless and god bless the rescuers/volunteers

Sorry to beat this drum on the other movie thread, but if you want to know about the story with less "reenactment" type scenes, check out The Rescue documentary. They capture all the suspense and drama without the "movie" stuff. Both films are really good, but just a different style that might be better suited to different viewers.

Cave diving is pretty much all my phobias wrapped up neatly in one package.

I've been waiting for this for awhile. What an absolutely amazing story.

If anyone wants any supplementary material other than the already mentioned The Rescue nat geo doc, there is a podcast called Against The Odds: Thai Cave Rescue that is really well done.

Insanely intense and gripping movie. When watching that unfold day by day in the news as it happened I had no earthly idea why/how their conundrum was so daunting. Those guys should all get free pad thai for life.

Watch this with the family last night. We all really enjoyed it. It's truly unbelievable what they did to get those boys out.

***SPOILER alert (probably not at all necessary here but just in case)***

This morning I was reading the Wikipedia article about it and got a bit of a chuckle out of this. They were talking about how they would prioritize who goes out first. The doctor said that all the kids were in decent condition so it really didn't matter. They left it up to the boys to decide themselves. The coach said they decided whoever lived the furthest away from the cave would go first. This was the reasoning…

Ekapol Chanthaong stated in their 18 July press conference, "We were thinking, when we get out of the cave, we would have to ride the bicycle home," Ekapol said, not realizing at the time their story had garnered global media attention.

Watched last night. This was a great movie. 2.5 hours long and it didn't really feel like it. Also like others have mentioned, it's a very stressful viewing experience despite knowing the outcome - but that is the mark of good direction and Ron Howard nailed it.

I'm very claustrophobic but, frankly, knowing the outcome along with the overwhelming awesomeness and inspiration of real people doing these things made the uncomfortable parts easy to overcome.

This movie showing real people doing these real things are worth a million Marvel Universes.

At least make an attempt to watch it. My claustrophobia probably served to make it even more amazing.

Just finished . Really incredible.

The first 30 is weird. When the first parents get to the cave and a guy there says "yeah we've called for help", seals are coming, etc. it felt like the moment should have been more….I don't know….urgent. The families were, of course freaking out but it still felt very nonchalant to that point.

Like others I remember seeing it daily but my mind thought "they can get to them - so they bring supplies for a while". No idea how truly f'd their situation was nor the pending monsoons that would have flooded the rest of the cave system. Lastly their mechanism to get them out. Ho Li Fook. At first we said "are they talking about….giving them a peaceful death?"
Staff - take out the trash.

My one complaint....because someone has to be "that guy":

I don't think Thai Navy Seals have shirts that say "Navy Seals" on the back in English.

I still have not been able to finish it simply because of the length of the movie. But from what I've seen so far, I will definitely find some time to finish it this weekend.

Just finished it. The cast and cinematography were on point!
It's already a great story. The fact that it's based on actual events makes it even better. Ron Howard knocked this one out of the park.

Why don't you think that's feasible?

Good movie. Quite claustrophobic throughout much of it. I was amazed at the depiction of moving through those water-filled pathways, and how they made it feel like you were really there. Surely they filmed this on a set of some kind, not an actual cave?

It is feasible! I saw the documentary about the rescue called, get this, "The Rescue" and those shirts were there!

I made the "complaint" after I saw the movie but before I saw the documentary.

The documentary also seems to show that the US military was a lot more involved than was portrayed in the movie.

Watched it last night. Thought it was incredible. Absolutely amazing to think of all the niche people in this world with special skills like the British divers and great to see people from all over the world come together for a small village in Thailand. Gripping stuff.
