Ask for her opinion on the racism/sexism of the original series.
"You know growing up as Filipino-American, you weren't seeing a whole of people that looked like you on any shows geared for young people. I remember growing up in LA going to school with hundreds of Asian classmates but when I watched a show like Saved by the Bell, you saw four white kids and their light-skinned Hispanic and Black friends and thought, 'Wait a minute, where's everyone who looks like us?'
I know that the original show had some real trouble with some behavior towards cast members for their sexuality that was inappropriate in any era, and that's hard to imagine someone going through that when there wasn't a real acceptance of who they were. As for the notion of the black ranger being Black and the yellow ranger being Asian, I can see what people might think that. But I originally auditioned and was cast as the pink ranger, It was a last minute change. I know that the main audience was kids, and kids who saw someone who looked like them didn't care what color suit I was wearing, they were thrilled about who was under the helmet."
