At the Alamo Drafthouse to watch Conan the Barbarian (1982). Such a great movie with a great, booming score by Basil Poledouris.

I find it curious that of all my trips to the theater this year, only one current movie even ranks among the best I have seen this year, that being Top Gun Maverick. Everything else was released originally years ago, from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Superman: The Movie to The Thing and Blade Runner, has been far more enjoyable than any of the MCU movies or pretty much anything else this year. Conan the Barbarian as well. Next month I am going to see Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Poltergeist. Damn, 1982 was a great year for movies.

Riddle of Steel/Riders of Doom is one of my favourite movie themes of all time

Elvis was awesome. The Batman was really, really good too.

I've seen a number of very good movies at the theater this year. I've seen exactly one comic book movie at the theater this year and it was not very good.

Maybe pick better?

When is the next good movie coming out? Thanksgiving? It's been a while. Probably last was Minions or Thor for me.

I used to work with a guy who loved Thulsa Doom's dialogue.

When he'd have an idiot phone call he would intentionally stare into the distance for a minute and then say,

They shall all drown in lakes of blood. Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they will learn why they fear the night.

Depends on your definition of "good." The awards/Oscar fare begins in late September with Don't Worry Darling, and continues with a notable release nearly every week from then on through late December. But if you're talking more genre/blockbuster stuff, that'll start up again mid-to-late October with Halloween Ends and Black Adam, and then into November with Wakanda Forever, Avatar: The Way of Water in December, etc, with others sprinkled in among those.

Just because I didn't mention everyone of the movies I've seen, does not mean I haven't enjoyed some of this year's movies. Of those, The Batman, Elvis, and Bullet Train come to mind, but I like the older movies I've seen this year more than any of those.

I'm shocked that a selection of the best movies of the past is better than an average movie today. Shocked.

Ah yes, worst recession since the 30s, beginning of the aids epidemic, rampant crime, music and movies on cassettes, and the dude who allowed his wife's astrologer to help determine policy was in the white house. A banner ****ing year, indeed.

Good Lord. I'm guessing you blame all of that on Reagan.

I said nothing about whose fault any of this was, other than the very low hanging fruit of Reagan literally allowing his wife to bring in an astrologist to help inform policy. But I mean, this coming from someone with a #FJB sig, I would expect nothing short of projection

But in the 1982 Reagan was still cleaning up Carter's mess. That's how it works, right?

Obama blamed Bush for at least 6.5 of his 8 years.

Reagan was still mopping up puke.

Once again, projection. Still haven't said one word about Reagan other than the astrology thing, which is 100% true. All I did was call out a bull**** post about the good ole days by using a few examples about a particular year, and you people focus on such a small part of it because you cannot see past the fact that I reference Reagan doing something absolutely absurd in passing. It's kinda hilarious to watch.

Typically when one starts pointing out stuff like worst recession, they blame the current occupant of the White House. Plenty of people have blamed Reagan and the CIA for AIDS, so not projecting anything. As for my signature, I stand by it. That guy was an incompetent moron even before the dementia got him.
