Carey, Neil Peart, and Stewart Copeland were buddies. They would get together and jam at Copeland's house.

Yeah. Like my top three drummer idols growing up.

Well as much as that sounds plausible and he could play any rush song.... it is the same three song set they played in Wembley and Omar Hakim played the drums on that song. I think they just stuck with the same lineup. For acts that repeated both concerts that was the case on most of them.

Rush played "2112: Overture" and "Working Man" with Dave Grohl in London. In LA Dave did 2112, but Chad Smith did "Working Man". And then closed with YYZ with Omar Haikm in London and Danny Carey in the 2nd concert.

Omar did a great job, definitely a different style, but no doubt Danny nailed it. My favorite living drummer.
lol I know.. I was just making light of the fact that D.C. very likely can pull that song (or many rush songs) out of the blue at any time.. no rehearsal necessary.

Portnoy too.

Saw a video of Portnoy, Paul Gilbert, and a bass player named Sean something-or-other playing YYZ several years back. They did the live version I saw on the Signals tour, where Neil did his All The World's A Stage solo in the middle of the song and then ends it with the last of those three drum fills where he and Geddy trade off and then Alex goes into his solo for YYZ.

Portnoy nailed it all. He has probably been playing along with that for years.

Carey is probably the same way.

Was it just me or was Alex just not as crisp as usual at either tribute show? Geddy played as well as ever but Alex seemed to struggle.

I know he's got arthritis and wonder if that's getting to be too much to deal with to be at the level he used to hit.

Same here. Probably a combination of arthritis and not playing in that style for a long time. All of his playing on Envy of None was soundscape-type stuff. The other guitarist did the traditional playing.

BTW, if you've never seen it, it's worth a watch.

This was the encore during the Signals tour. Neil played his solo after playing 2+ hours of his drum parts.

Geddy and Alex walk back on and pick up in that song for the guitar solo section like nothing had ever happened. It was classic Rush. Clearly Canadien.

Mike Portnoy is one of the few that can overplay like Niel and still make it sound so damn good.
