Saw some people complaining about how bad the troll scene looked when they had motion smoothing turned on on their TVs at home.

Then today I saw this on Twitter. I have a TV that's a few years old now, never knew much about this motion stuff. What is the general Entertainment board take on this subject?

This is your yearly PSA to turn off Motion Smoothing on your TV. It doesn't enhance the image. It was purely a marketing gimmick meant to trick people into thinking an HDTV looked super next-gen sitting next to the CRT TVs at the store back in the day. First thing turned off with any TV. Just recently switched from my old plasma TV to a new OLED TV. Taking awhile to get used to some of the motion blur on the OLED compared to plasma, but it is still better than the soap opera effect from the motion smoothing (auto motion plus) settings

I'm going to be so sad when my plasma finally dies. I still think it looks better than the vast majority of newer tvs and it's 14 years old

I've always turned it off because of how it makes sports look choppy. After the recent viral discussion over motion smoothing, it makes me wonder if half the people complaining about CGI on this board unknowingly make their viewing experience worse.

My MIL's husband has this feature on their tv. Nothing like watching Mission Impossible: As the World Turns.

I don't understand how some people just flat out don't notice it's so bad it seems like the movie is constantly moving faster than the sound coming out.

I go over to someone's house and I just want to grab the remote to go to their settings and turn it off.

Just got a new set last week and had to dig into the settings to find it. Feel so much better now.

Sidenote: We did a trip to a central Texas resort this summer and Raiders of the Lost Ark was on but I couldn't get into the tv settings to turn off motion smoothing and it was like my own personal hell.
