Great flick. Seen it countless times, but don't even try to tell me you don't get scenes in it confused with Legends of the Fall.

It's the same movie

I think a "perfect" movie wouldn't have to have the stipulation of "well technology of the time".

Back to the Future was about TIME TRAVEL... Made in 1984/1985... And at no point in that movie did I ever say "oh well that looks fake". They knew what they were working with and adapted.

I'd say Jaws is every bit the movie BTTF is... but I would never consider it "perfect" as the shark in some scenes even by Spielberg's admission was laughably bad.

Usual Suspects also should be considered as well.

But if I had to pick one it would be Back to The Future

A couple more that came to mind:

Gladiator
Halloween (May be slower for the current generation, but as a suspenseful thriller, it is perfect. And the cinematography is still an all-timer for me.)

Halloween is a classic in every sense of the word.

But few posts earlier you mention a "perfect movie" to you is about having a good story without any major plot holes of conveniences, everything makes logical sense, etc...

Even ignoring that Halloween was absolutely derivative of Black Christmas, it's chock full of continuity errors (he's seen in his mask before he actually steals the mask), plot holes, and there's nothing logical about Michael Myers not only knowing how to drive a car but driving like a normal person all around Haddonfield through the early part of the film.

It's got an amazing score, it's wonderfully paced, very well acted and an all-around classic. But by your own definition it's far from perfect.

I specifically said continuity errors were not an issue for me.

And it's really not all that derivative of Black Christmas because they're incredibly different movies. There's no stalking, stylistically it's way different and more of a giallo movie than a slasher. Personally I think it owes more of a debt to Psycho than Black Christmas.

Plus, you can say that about almost any movie. Ben Hur for Gladiator, etc.

Michael driving to me is not a plot hole, just like him not being killed by six shots to the chest. He's just a supernatural entity that is never explained, which is cool. Plus, the fact that Dr. Loomis jokes that someone must've given him lessons is pretty funny.

Can we just pick any blockbuster from the mid 90s? Forrest Gump, pulp fiction, jurassic park, shawshank, saving private ryan, clerks, clueless....so many different genres.

I think clueless may get some **** on here because it was a teen chick flick but man it completely influenced my entire generation.

There's a whole lot of "my favorite movies" or "movies I really like" on this list.

If we're talking about the perfect film, that's a very short list.

Yeah not sure there is much difference.

There are some movies I like but that have stupid **** or bad scenes enough to keep them off here.

But a 'perfect movie' is by definition more enjoyable than others.

And typically sets a standard.

Cannonaball run for instance. Enjoyable. Sets a real standard for 70's iconic culture and American attitudes, and car movies in general. So in that sense, it's perfect.

Now you're changing the game and setting a very ambiguous rule for "perfect". Enjoyable by whom? If it typically sets a standard, can a perfect movie not be derivative in any way, whatsoever? I'm not a big fan of Cannonball run and would never call it a perfect movie.

well what do you call a perfect movie?

I Mean how do you define it other than by really liking it, and maybe recognizing that it is ground breaking on some way.

Awards? Cause I've seen some really ****ty award movies.

Most of the movies people are
Listing here do both.

Even cannonball run. If you don't like freedom, cars, big star casts, boobs, and ridiculous irreverent comedies, it's not for you. But I do and it certainly set a standard for all that. So in that space, it was damn near perfect.

It's a Wonderful Life

Always had ridiculed this movie as a kid based off what I presumed was a scene of cheese. You know the whole gathering around the tree at the end with Bailey hugging all his kin? Watched it for the first time a few years back and it hit me in the heart strings. Absolute Classic without a flaw.
