Pretty cool moment during the movie, which is excellent by the way.
Nolie was a hero of mine growing up, as was my dad. We happened to go to the fifth no hitter together (I was 11 or so). First base side great seats. My dad passed away last year - great memories, great man. So I'm watching the show this past weekend and boom, freeze the frame, and there on the screen are my dad and me! Goose bumps, a wow moment, and just a cool memory.
Loved watching nolie pitch. Oh, by the way, my second favorite ball player - terry puhl, who made the catch. And I got to meet him years later, with my dad, playing in the annual Astros charity golf tournament. He was the Astro on our foursome. Really cool to see him in the film too.

Never in my life, and from DFW. Is that a Houston thing?Pahdz said:

After being strikeout victim #5,000, someone asked Ricky Henderson if he was embarrassed to be the answer to the trivia question. Ricky responded with something to the effect of, "If you've never been struck out by Nolan Ryan, you're a nobody." I've always loved that quote because it's one hundred percent true. The only guys who Nolan didn't strike out are guys that never made it to the majors.
You know your team has had a bad history on the field when their most famous highlight is a player getting in a fight.Definitely Not A Cop said:

Not only getting into a fight, but getting his ass whipped by a man 20 years his elder.cajunaggie08 said:You know your team has had a bad history on the field when their most famous highlight is a player getting in a fight.Definitely Not A Cop said:

They had that whole "let's throw the World Series" moment in history as well. Got a movie made about that one.cajunaggie08 said:You know your team has had a bad history on the field when their most famous highlight is a player getting in a fight.Definitely Not A Cop said:

I guess because win's and losses were the barometer for pitchers when he pitched.
Saberhagen was 9 years old in 1973. Jim Palmer won with a 22-9 record and a league low 2.40 ERA. Nolan also had 2 no hitters that season on top of 383 K's and a 21-16 record.BadMoonRisin said:
Bret Saberhagen -- he was 23-6.
Dave Winfield was the first athlete ever to be drafted by 4 different professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL...just kidding, the ABA was still around and drafted him).Pahdz said:

Honestly, I don't think he hit anybody. I remember there was a lot of back and forth between him and the A's and the umps... He finally got run (must have called the guy a c@cksucker) and the crowd went nuts. So much trash, etc. thrown on the field.AggieArchitect04 said:

I was at that game too. If memory serves Jose Canseco had been tossed earlier for arguing the strike zone but I think the A's had hit a Rangers batter. When Nolan hit an A's batter in their next AB he was thrown out. Then the crowd went nuts and started littering the field with trash.

I never saw video from his last game until this doc. It seems like blowing a tendon in your elbow would hurt a lot. But he just stood there and looked around at what was suddenly his last game to take it all in.
I'm not sure, but that seems like a badass to me.
