How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just finished (re)reading the most recent book in my favorite series, thus beginning (again) the wait for the next book. The downside to reading a series that the author is still writing (especially when you discover a series that already has several books, which you binge-read until you come to a crashing halt to await the next one.)

It occurred to me that there are there are a bunch of series that I'm waiting for the next book:

Michael Connelly - Bosch - next book due Nov 2022
Larry Correia - Monster Hunter International - TBD
Timothy Zahn/David Weber - Manticore Ascendant - TBD
Orson Scott Card - Second Formic War trilogy - TBD
Christopher G. Nutall - Ark Royal - TBD
Peter Nealen - Brannigan's Blackhearts - TBD
Andrew Wareham - War to End All Wars - TBD
Jeffrey H. Haskell - Grimm's War - Mar 2023

On the non-fiction side, waiting for Richard B. Frank's follow up to Tower of Skulls, but Frank's history shows about 10 years between books, so I'll probably be waiting on that one for a while.

Both of these are just teases at this point, but I still have hope. I'll give GRRM some slack as he is involved in the shows and I think he's trying to perfect the next two books due to the backlash of GOT ending. But Rothfuss just turned into an A-hole, I'm all but done with that dude.

Doesn't Stephen King have at least two books about fans going psycho on an author because they either couldn't wait for the next book or didn't like the most recent book?

Ugh. Speaking of Stephen King, I remember how badly I was impatient for him to write those last few Dark Tower books. Only to be totally shocked at how terrible and half-assed they were compared to the first few.

Sanderson has like 15 books I'm waiting on right now. All being released within the next year.

I mean, not really 15, but its pretty close. Wax and Wayne 4 is out 11/14.

Also can't wait for new Dresden book.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Winds of Winter, although I'm pretty sure that's not coming out until GRR dies and someone takes over his estate and finishes it for him.

Yeah I read Wastelelads as soon as it came out. Then the waiting and waiting and waiting; I thought he'd never finish the series.

I still consider Wizard and Glass to be worth that wait, and the best book in the series. But then everything begain to go steeply downhill after that...

Winds of winter. I'm still hoping that Martin is secretly completing a dream of spring and will release both within a year or so of each other.

As for that rothfuss dude, the first book was pretty captivating. I didn't even get through the second book. If a third book actually comes out, I don't know if I'll care enough.

Rothfuss is a jackass at this point and I'm not giving him any support, nor do I care to reread and refresh 1 and 2.

I'm always ready for another Dresden book. I have much to catch up on with Sanderson who writes more than I read.

Parroting what has already been said:

Wax and Wayne 4
Thorn of Emberlain
Next Dresden (Mirror, Mirror?)
Stormlight 5 will be huge, but that's a long wait.
Sanderson's 4 novels. I signed up for them, but don't even want to read the synopsis of any of them.
Doors of Stone. Yeah, Rothfuss is a tool, but I love the books.

I'm assuming on that one. It's been a while since I read the last one, but I don't think that book ever got to Mazer's battle with the Formic Fleet, which would leave the story arc incomplete.

They really are well written. Seem like the plot was well thought out and planned. Everything had a purpose.

How did I not know there was a first Formic War trilogy? Are they good? I thought you meant the Ender books but these are set before then.

Martha Wells' new Murderbot book, due in January.

The second Hugh Howey book in the Sand saga just published on October 4. It's his first new book in 6 years. I haven't gotten it yet, as I'm still reading the Expeditionary Force series.

Speaking of which, book 15 of the ExForce series is due to be published In December.

They're definitely worth the read. A good bit different from the original series, especially Ender's Game. Improvise-Adapt-Overcome is a big part of the story, because humanity has no vessels built for space combat when the first Formics arrive in the solar system.

There's a series of Mars books that were recommended to me for fans of The Expanse. Kim Stanley Robinson. Red Mars. Green Mars. Blue Mars. Next on my list after I finish Rise of Endymion.

And I got dragged back into David Weber's Honorverse. I had bailed because book 13 (Uncompromising Honor) on the main story line series just got too big and convoluted and managed to join the short list of books that I started but haven't finished. Then I got pulled back in with the Crown of Slaves story arc that Weber co-wrote with Eric Flint.

Anyway, the next collection in the Honorverse anthology line, What Price Victory?, is due out Feb 7. No word on the book or books that will finally bring the saga to a close.

And I'm on the waiting list at my local library for Connelly's latest Bosch book.

I have somehow never dived into the sub stories of Honorverse. Weber is an author I have followed for a good chunk of my life and have most of his works owned. Have read Honor front to end at least three times now but just can't seem to get motivated to get stuck in to the side stuff. Have to make a concerted effort to try again soon. Hell, it took me years to finally get into Dune and that paid off handsomely in the end…

The Crown of Slaves arc is quite good. It focuses on Victor Cachat and Anton Zilwicki, and really carries a good chunk of the story of what's going on with the whole Mesan conspiracy. Really, past a certain point in the Honorverse, you have to read the side stories, because that's were most of the plot moves forward. Honor is commanding the whole Maniticoran fleet, and is really just to high up do much as a character any more. Kind of like the ceiling that Clancy ran into with Jack Ryan once he made Ryan President.
