I think he was going to the Elf homeland but it's been a while since I've seen it.

He was sailing to the Undying Lands, the homeland of the Elves.

Have you seen Heat?

Valinor, the undying lands. He and Bilbo were given that honor because they had borne the One Ring.

Miami. He and his buddies will become dishwashers at a restaurant, but Frodo wants bigger and better things…

Because the answers on Texags are much more fun than Google…

Samwise also goes later on since he bore the ring for just a moment.

I think Frodo and Bilbo (and Sam and Gimli) still die in Valinor and got whatever post-death Doom awaits hobbits and dwarves. Valinor for them is a retirement home, but they're not made immortal.

Kind of reinforces the tragedy of the last king of Numenor. Even had he landed on Valinor, he would not have become immortal like the elves. Their immortality comes from Eru Iluvatar, not their locale.

No. He did not sail across the sea to the Grey Havens until after Rosie's death and their many children were grown.

Pretty much. I always wondered about that, even when I first read these as a kid. Seemed like of all the ring bearers, Sam held it far more briefly. He also had WAY more grounding in the "real world" than just about any being from any race.

Yep. Gimli, I believe, is also the only Dwarf to be allowed to go to the Undying Lands because of his part in the Fellowship and his relationship to Legolas, seeing as they were inseparable after the events of the Lord of the Rings. They both sailed there together.

Do you think Gimli was the bottom since he was already lower to the ground than Legolas?
