Bono finally apologizes

In hindsight it seems obvious to not force your new album onto everyone's device.
But it still seems like a good idea to make your album free and available to everyone buying a brand new music device. Great way to get your name and music out there. I guess the only way to make it better would have been to make it optional.

The worse part of it was trying to delete it. Somehow it just kept showing back up.

I don't know the details here but isn't that ultimately Apple's call? Shouldn't they be apologizing and not Bono/U2?
Hard to fault a band for wanting millions of people to have access to their music, I would assume in hopes of converting a lot of fans who weren't previously fans. Either way, obviously it was a dumb decision.

They should've apologized for the album cover as well.
Also, I still have songs from this album that sometimes start playing automatically when my bluetooth connects to my car . It just won't go away!

Admittedly, I'm a U2 fan, and I hate Apple in a lot of ways.... so that being said... I put this on Apple.
This is an artist saying "give my stuff away for free". Sure, fine. that's great, nothing wrong with that. How you do that is a technical solution, and Apple screwed that up in several ways. There should have been an opt-in selection of some sort to be able to prompt the user to download, and like everything else, delete it off if they want to.

I agree with this. That has to be one of the worse covers in the history of music. WTF were they thinking.
Bono traumatized a lot of people here.
Radiohead did it right with "here is our new album, for free on a website if you want to download it. Pay us what you'd like to or pay nothing." The balls it takes to think everyone wants your album just added to your playlist is crazy. Even if it's a great album, which it wasn't.
I have a hilarious memory of my grandfather who was in his 80's at the time. He had no idea what this music was and was so pissed. I was a hero when I finally figured out how to delete it off his phone.

Just checked, and yeah, that s**t is still in my library. Have always hated that.
Every so often my iPad will be playing that album, not sure how it even starts playing, I don't ever use the iPad for music and never hit the music icon.
Always takes a few seconds to realize it's not some annoying commercial. I have never listened to the album so I don't recognize the songs.

I don't even have an iPhone or use any Apple music products anymore. It's been several years. And this still pisses me off to remember how it just showed up on my phone
My car will automatically connect to my phone and it defaults to Apple Music. I deleted all the music off my Apple Music with the exception of an album of Chopin nocturnes so it's something chill.
About once every two months this freaking album would reappear like a horror movie villain. I would delete it and it kept coming back.
Freaking maddening. Finally just deleted Apple Music off my phone.

At least I didn't have bluetooth in my car at the time, because I'm pretty sure my car would auto play that U2 album each day had there been.
I still have one of the song openings stuck in my head from that album autoplaying on my truck as I desperately tried to find my real music. I'll never accept this apology and still might punch Bono. I looked it up and the song was called 'California'. That song can burn in hell.
That's literally the only music my wife has in her phone.
