Just trying to get as many opinions as possible to formulate a decision... I'm looking to replace a 9 year old 55" Samsung in my living room with a 65", given the rebates available right now. The primary models I'm considering are a Samsung S95B and LG G2. I've never had an OLED panel; the salesman recommended the Samsung since it is going in a living room with windows for the extra brightness. Any recommendations between the 2 models? How much will I miss Dolby Vision if I go Samsung?

Off on a tangent… sound bars (not for my main living room, but for a bedroom). What is the consensus on the Sonos Arc vs Klipsch Cinema 800 or 1200?

My parents bought a top-of-the-line, 78" Samsung three or four years ago and right at a year a black smudge appeared on the left side of the screen, the entire height of the screen, about six inches thick. Was a couple weeks after the warranty was up, and the audio/video company who sold it/installed it basically shrugged their shoulders and said, "Oh yeah, those Samsung models are known to do that and we've stopped selling them." From that point on, I vowed never to buy Samsung myself, and never work with that A/V company again. (They're called Dominion, and serve a big chunk of North Texas, but are based out of San Antonio. They're the absolute f/cking worse, for a number of reasons, and I will never turn down an opportunity to publicly disparage them, or Samsung.)

I bought a 65" LG OLED a year ago after being told by everyone that's the way to go and reading its stellar reviews. It's fine. Sometimes I think the picture could be better but I don't dislike it.

Personally, if I could do it all over again I'd get a Sony, cuz they just look a lot better to me when I'm looking in Best Buy and have always seemed like the top of the line, but I'm no expert.

Whatever they get, at minimum, adjust the settings based on rtings review. If you don't cut the soap opera effect off, it doesn't matter

I've got the Samsung S95B and love it ($1399 pre-tax with my wife's educator discount). Huge upgrade over my last LED (non-OLED) LG. Found some great calibration settings on the AVS Forum. Went with it over the LG C2 because of the RTINGS posts. Don't miss Dolby Vision at all, HDR content looks amazing.

The Sony OLED last year was the best TV then. It uses the same panel (LG made) as your tv but has a better image processor. It also was way more expensive and not worth the upgrade to most. I am wondering if your settings are not good or your source material is not good?

I can tell you that comparing TV's in a Best Buy is a terrible way to choose one TV over the other. It is nothing like in home and they have a setting they turn on for "in store" that make it look nothing like it will look in home (over saturated and way too bright).

Current best TV is the Sony QD-OLED based on the Samsung S95B panel. It also has a Sony tax. I would go with the Samsung S95B first and the G2 as a very close second, if it is my money.

I got a Samsung about 18 months ago. Been a fine tv. Only complaint is the stupid Samsung menu that pops up when you fire up the tv and anytime you switch around apps. It just sucks and Samsung went out of their way to make it as intrusive as possible. I had heard rumors they modified it since mine. I would check on it before buying Samsung.

Just took delivery of a 77" LG OLED of Saturday once the price dropped for the 2023's.

Really happy with it, even in a room that isn't super dark
