Adrift - amazing true story of a solo sailboat captain who must survive adrift in a safety raft for months after his sailboat sinks in middle of the Atlantic. It is fantastic.

Unbroken- WW2 story of survival and redemption, an American olympic hero is shot down and captured by the Japanese and must endure physical and mental abuse by a cruel war criminal. An absolute must read.

Y'all reminded me about a great Icelandic movie I saw called "The Deep".

It's a true story about a guy who survived the freezing water off Iceland after his fishing boat capsized.

As a former Alaskan, this movie scared the heck outta me and I assumed there's no possible way this guy could live.

Endurance is great, Adrift is great, another one not yet mentioned, The Long Walk, by Slavomir Rawicz. It's about his trek to freedom after becoming a POW when Russia invaded Poland in 1939. He escapes from a POW camp in Siberia and with a small group hike from Siberia to British India. He says it is a true story, disputed by others.

Another great read in the survival genre is Escape From Davao
