Did you read the weekly interviews with Lisa Joy after each episode of season 1 or 2? It was like when you were a kid, and your dad's old hometown buddy would tell a joke or do a magic trick with a coin, then smile proudly saying "yeah, I thought you'd like that." I can't bash it, because I really liked a lot of what they were trying to do, but it's not ironic that they had characters become self-aware of their own intelligence.
