I watched it on the Showtime app. Didn't realize it was available until I stumbled across it this morning.
I think viewing him as basically a severe addict (that's essentially what food bingers like him are) who is committing long form suicide and is filled with debilitating shame and regret was just incredibly sad and depressing to me. And trying to make a desperate last ditch hail mary attempt to spark any sort of relationship with his highly damaged daughter, who he thought he was protecting from himself by not being around, but who probably could have used a loving, involved father, gay or not, just hit me like a freight train. It's just incredibly sad, and something about him made me very emotional. I can't imagine desperately wanting to feel a shred of love from my calloused daughter. I am not sure many actors could have brought me to tears like he did. He was perfectly selected for this role imo.JDUB08AG said:
I also watched this on a plane a couple weeks ago, but honestly don't know how to feel. It was depressing as hell, but it didn't generate the same emotional response from me as it did for some of you, and I also have a young daughter. I struggled on the empathy front. Maybe that makes me callous, but that's just straight up honestly on my part. I think in part they went to extremes on both sides of the emotional spectrum.
Fraser and the cast did a great job, but I just can't quite explain why it didn't hit me.
