In those deleted scenes, they stiffed the pizza guy on tips, who came back and stole their wallets. That's how they lost them.
They drove last Chicago and ended up in Milwaukee, where a cop (Michael Mckeon) pulled them over..
Sm's wife thought the whole delay was because he was having an affair, which is why she had that look on her face at the end, among other things.
John Candy also got punched in the face in a deleted scene(I think by SM), you can see the black eye in a few scenes.

Just showed this one to my kids for the first time on Monday. I've been saving it for the right time. My boy died laughing multiple times: those aren't pillows, F bombs at the counter, and then SM getting drug off by his junk.

Watched it today.
I've always wanted to see the deleted scenes because the original uncut movie ran about 3 hours so there's a lot they scrapped.
