Most of the stuff on Netflix is boring woke trash but this is not one of them. I actually enjoy it.

Did you watch the Netflix's Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

No, is that good too? I started Wednesday because I remember watching old reruns of the TV show and the movies from the 90s. Never got into Sabrina.

Who knew "Goth Nancy Drew" would be so fun? I think the casting is what made this one good.

This show was soooo bad. Felt like a CW show with the annoying teenage drama and love triangles. This also felt nothing like the Addams Family. Gomez is now a sad sack, Morticia is no longer the powerful confident woman of the source material, Pugsley is a gigantic wimp, and Wednesday hates her parents and brother which is all complete mischaracterizations when compared with the source material and flies in the face of why the Addams Family was created.

Originally, they were made to be the polar opposite of the typical sitcom family. Rather than kids fighting with their parents, the Addams family children were made to adore their parents and each other. Morticia and Gomez, rather than be in a typical loveless/vanilla relationship with no overt signs of affection, were aggressively affectionate towards each other. They all delighted in the morbid and dangerous. Gomez should not be terrified during a sword fight, he would be delighted. Morticia would not be screaming about two men fighting over her, she would be head over heels at the thought.

This feels more like someone at Netflix had the idea for a "Monster High School" and someone decided to slap the Addams Family IP on it to gain eyeballs.

Amazingly, Netflix is claiming that this is the most watched English language series of all time, beating out stranger things season 4 which I have to seriously question. Almost no one I know is openly talking about this both online and IRL as opposed to ST which was all anyone could talk about when it came out.

I can see the complaints about how it doesn't jive with typical Adams Family stuff - and all of your reasons are accurate. But I went into it as a reimagining of the IP and suspended what I knew before - and genuinely enjoyed the show. I've recommended it to a couple coworkers just today

Wife started in and I started in on ep 2-4 (dunno). I think casting is all around good, except Gomez. Raul Julia will always be Gomez, RIP.

37 young enough?

I saw tons of the Adams Family on Nick at Night, but John Astin isn't who I think of when I think of Gomez

Yep, 37 is still young, believe it or not. No offense, I'm jealous.

I guess I grew up watching too many reruns on TBS and WGN (no Nick at Night for me) to think of Raul Julia as THE Gomez Addams.

The Netflix Sabrina is pretty similar to Wednesday, although I think Wednesday is better? Although that answer might be different if I had only watched one season of each.

The Addams Family was adapted to TV. The TV series is not the source material. Thats the same reason people get weirded out about Gomez' characterization as well. John Astin was not really like Gomez in the cartoon/comics.

It is intended to be a CW like teenage school drama. Its formula is like Riverdale or the Netflix Sabrina. Thats why I recommended Sabrina to someone who liked this.

I often quote Raul Julia's monologue at the police station, it is a terrific scene.

I gave this a chance and was really entertained by the first episode.

I think I enjoyed it making fun of the usual teenage tropes and actors.

Decided to check this one out, and was pleasantly surprised. A little obvious where it was going, but I thought Ortega did a fantastic job in the role. Definitely was worth the time invested, and more enjoyable than just about anything Disney has put out.

I did find it funny how the "social outcast" and "non-conformist" was spouting all the popular leftwing platitudes, but it wasn't enough to bother me. Just thought it was amusing.

Really enjoyed this. I have to think Ortega was inspired by Aubrey Plaza from Parks n Rec, they sometimes sound indistinguishable.

I think it's a little bit better polished than your typical CW drama. And Sabrina was pretty decent, it is however a lot darker than Wednesday. Wednesday has a light-heartedness about it that I appreciated and the teen drama wasn't the centralized part of the show. It still felt like to me that the mystery remained the center of the show and any drama didn't overshadow the storyline. In those CW shows, the drama becomes the main storyline I feel like.

I came away very pleasantly surprised and it was an enjoyable watch for sure. Albeit, as someone said below, it was obvious where it was going.

I finally got around to watching this. The writing was terrible, the CGI was awful, and much of the acting was bad... And yet, I still really enjoyed it. I think the job the main girl did as Wednesday is what makes this series. She really nailed the role. Most of the adults are terrible, with Gomez Addams being the worst. I am surprised that it's one of Netflix most watched shows ever, but it was pretty fun.

I think it is a mix of being somewhat appealing to multiple age groups, being released in its entirety during winter break when the whole family has more time together and the whole country is in a cold spell.

Our family certainly contributed. My 10 year watched episode 1. I watched episode one with him again to check on what he was watching and then we watched episode 2. Then my 10 year old watched episodes 1 and 2 again with wife and 15 year and we all together watch 3 and 4. Yet again my 12 year old comes back from a ski trip and watches 1-4 with the other kids and the whole family watches 5-6. We will probably finish it together tonight.

Anyone ever seen the show Your Honor starring Bryan Cranston? The guy who plays Tyler in Wednesday (Hunter Doohan) is one of the main characters in that show.

Finally watched it. I thought it was pretty good, even with some of your usual teen drama trope. I wonder how long they can get away with Wednesday's general snarky, standoff-ish demeanor, now that a few have broken through her shell.

Someone above questioned if Ortega was inspired by Aubrey Plaza...but I got more of a Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands vibe. Thought she did a really nice job in the role.

I thought it was decent, went in with pretty low expectations and I don't regret watching it.

Am I the only one thinking it's a little overboard that Jenna Ortega is getting Best Actress nominations? I didn't think there was anything she did that was really amazing. Or was it just a weak awards cycle for TV this time?
