Today is 25 years since Farley passed. I still remember MTV News breaking in with the report. No telling what he could have done if he had got his demons under control.

I highly recommend reading "The Chris Farley Show" it tells his story through interviews of the people who knew him.

IMO, he was the greatest SNL actor of all time but I don't think his movie career would have ever gone anywhere. His style works better for skits than entire movies.

Edit: didn't mean to use that emoji

One of my favorite books and my favorite cast member of all time. Miss that guy. Movie career wise he was cast as Shrek before he died so he'd have that going for him.

Correct. And he had recorded about 90% of it when he died. Supposedly his take on it was incredible. They didn't feel right using it so they got Mike Myers to re-record the whole thing.

His bit as the security guard in Wayne's World really turned into Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker later on. You could see the foundation being put in place.

It's a Top 5 skit on SNL.

He'd been doing Matt Foley at 2nd City way before he was on SNL. Bob Odenkirk actually created it.

Aka big guy small jacket.

Rollingstone ranked him #15 all time but the article had regency bias with Tina Fey in the top 3.

#1 was Belushi and 2 was Eddie.

Rolling Stone rated Randy Rhoads #82 on their Best Guitarist list.

I think Joan Jett and Bob Dylan were rated higher.

They aren't good at lists and rankings.

You know, if he had kept doing the same stuff, you're probably right.

But I think he would've evolved.

My Dad always said you can get a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?

Farley had such an interesting innocence to him beyond the need to be class clown. I definitely could see him taking on some serious role later in life and getting nominated for an Oscar.

Losing him and Phil Hartman in a 6-month span to non-natural causes was a really miserable time. Hartman was 50 at the time, Farley just 33. The years of laughter and love they could have brought past their demises is miserable to think about how we all missed out on.

David Spade and Dana Carvey have a podcast out called "Fly on the Wall," and they've spent a majority of their episodes interviewing comics and old SNL co-workers. They recently released a two part episode (multiple hours) of Farley stories where they interview people who worked with and knew him, including his mother. It's great.

That's a really good podcast. By choice or by fate, Dana Carvey is one of the most criminally underrated comedians of the last 50 years.

Agreed. I'm not big on podcasts but I always listen to this one in the truck as soon as it's released.

He took some bad roles. Either by his agent or by his own choosing and also maybe that period of movie history. Take Jonah Hill for instance. He probably would have been typecast to his Superbad role back then.

Other than the Wayne's Worlds, he was in some really bad movies. Although his talents I think are better for something like SNL instead of regular acting like in movies. Who knows.

Almost Heroes is one of my favorite comedies. I'm sometimes surprised how many people have never heard of it. Just seeing that portrait of Farley in the opening credits gets me laughing. He and Mathew Perry were great together in that movie.
